Having previously breathed new life into classic cuts from L.T.D, George Duke and Sylvester, Kon has now turned his attention to another all-time favourite: Alicia Myers' 1981 stunner "I Want To Thank You", a disco-era gospel-soul favourite that remains one of the era's most timeless club records. Working from the multi-track tapes, Kon teases out Myers' killer vocal - drenched in just the right amount of reverb and delay - atop a slightly stripped-back groove before giving it the full kitchen sink treatment. Just as good is the flipside Dub, which flits between beat-free sections and the track's killer groove in the manner of disco dubs from the early 1980s. The song itself may not have needed tampering with, but Kon's versions are genuinely superb.

Hear & Now's 2018 debut album, "Aurore Baleare", was to our ears one of the best things Claremont 56 has put out in recent years, which is high praise given the label's notoriously high standards. "Alba Sol", the experienced Italian duo's follow-up, is arguably even better. Wisely, they've subtly tweaked their slow-motion, sun-kissed Balearic disco template to include more sounds and grooves associated with the Italian dream house sound of the late '80s and early '90s, as well as nods towards cosmic disco and the groovier end of the West Coast rock spectrum. It's a blend that results in a string of inspired cuts that are capable of putting a smile on the face of even the most miserable of listeners. Recommended!

Zenker Brothers - Mad System

Secluded Earthy Sagway Stunts.
It would be fair to say that this Eastenderz label debut is Toman's most high-profile solo single to date. In fact, we'd argue that it's his strongest lone release full stop. Check first the spacey, far-sighted positivity of funk-fuelled opener "High Ceilings" - a great example of revivalist '90s tech-house with the emphasis on mood and melody - before getting your ears around the similarly luscious and intergalactic flex of "Le Premier". Over on side B, Toman goes deeper still via the dub techno style synth motifs, rolling beats and weighty bass of "A Quarter To Molly", while closing cut "No Sleep" sees him wrap subtle acid lines and dreamy pads around the EP's chunkiest tech-house groove. In a word: delicious.

The latest full-length excursion from the Zake Drone label brings together imprint chief Zake and Past Inside The Present collaborator Slow Dancing Society for a first collaborative outing. Comprising six slow-motion tracks that sit somewhere between drone, academic ambient, sound design, ambient techno and neo-classical, "Mirrored" is an undeniably meditative affair capable of soothing stressed minds and warming aching limbs. There are of course distinctive highlights - see the gently throbbing deep space chords and hypnotic deep techno beats of "Mirrored", the windswept-but-warm pulse of "Anamnesis" and the contemplative late night drift of "Nadir" - but the album's greatest strength is undoubtedly how it sits together as a coherent, mood-enhancing whole.

Samo / Mirko & Meex / Buba / Giman - Cruise Music Vinyl Jams Vol 2

Second vinyl release from Cruise Music delivers another package of the best selling tracks from the label. A side is reserved for Samo's Straight On and Mirko & Meex's For Your Love, nothing but pure disco-jackin fire. On the flip side we got Buba & Giman's tracks, easily one of the best tracks since the beginning of our label. This vinyl is a must have for all the house music lovers out there!
The latest drop on Aesthetic comes from Gruia, a Romanian producer with serious credentials thanks to his recent appearance on Sonet. "Neutron Starlet" is a trippy, playful minimal tech house workout with zippy sounds darting all over the mix. "Din Eter" gets into a more pronounced swing, and uses a sustained pad to create an ethereal mood that should inject some spiritual energy into the party. "Jalea Viului" keeps things steady and rolling, but there's still space for flamboyant FX buried in the mix. "Un Vechi Inceput" finishes the record off on a tense note, using minor keys to keep you on your toes without slouching on those all-important wiggles and squiggles to keep things funky.
