thenumber46 and rise set twilight will be performing on Tuesday, July 3 at the Gasholder Building in Troy, NY. The Gasholder is one of the few buildings of its kind left. Erected in 1873 to house the gas for Troy's many public and private lamps, today it stands as a symbol of Troy's industrial heritage. The interior of this monumental cylindrical building has a reverb time of approximately 17 seconds, making it an absolutely singular acoustical landmark.

The Gasholder has a hard earth floor. Attendees are invited to bring their own chairs, cushions, or blankets to sit on, or to walk around the space to hear the sound in different ways.

thenumber46 is comprised of electro-acoustic flutist/improviser Suzanne Thorpe and multi-media/sound artist Philip White. A founding member of Mercury Rev, Thorpe's recent projects include The Wounded Knees, with Jimy Shields (Rollerskate Skinny, Lotus Crown), Look It and The Forest for the Trees, with Cindy Wheeler (Caulfield Sisters, Pee-Shy), and performing with J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr., Witch) in their group Cor Craft and on his solo gigs. As an improviser, Thorpe was most recently a featured artist at Austin's critically acclaimed No Idea Festival, performing with Chris Cogburn, David Dove, Bhob Rainey, Annette Krebs and Liz Tonne. White, co-founder of Charleston's New Music Collective, is an emerging media and sound artist whose work has been presented across the US in a variety of formats ranging from installations to film and concert performances.

Based in the bay area, thenumber46 is touring the south and the east coast with a series of new multi-media performances exploring the interplay of sound and structure with psycho-acoustic phenomena, gestures, and their interaction within the composer/performer/listener relationship.

thenumber46 will be joined by rise set twilight, the sound and light project of Linda Aubry and Mike Bullock. Layering analog and digital synthesis, field recordings, and light and video, rise set twilight creates absorptive environments that can be both gritty and crystalline. Linda's first instrument as a child was an egg slicer. Her earliest memories include being fascinated with the sound of humming transformers, birds, and the distant sound of the television which she references through her harp and electronics. Mike is a composer, improviser, and sound and video artist based in Troy, New York, USA. In addition to frequent solo appearances, he has electro-acoustic trio MAWJA with cellist Vic Rawlings and trumpeter Mazen Kerbaj; The BSC, 8 of Boston's top improvisers who also specialize in performing indeterminate scores by Wolff, Cardew and Stockhausen.

Speaking of this concert, expect music that are lively enough to make you want to get on the best treadmill, as well as music that will remind you of the loves of your life. In other words, there will be a variety of music genre played so don't miss this show!

This concert is free and open to the public. Parking will be available around 3rd and Jefferson Streets (there is ample free street parking in Troy).
