Threskiornis-All Empires Fall

Now prepare for something obscure and unexpectedly good: Threskiornis hail from Sydney and Melbourne, Australia they formed in 2015  they are a five piece band with dual vocals and cello in their crust noize, i didn't find any farcebook page or anything else thats why the obsure thing. All Empires Fall is their first recording, it consists of six tracks and it delivers melodic, dark and melancholic crust, accompinied by the cello parts and with a hint of blackened feeling. The dual vocals make the whole thing more interesting, lyrics are dark and pessimistic too, there are melodic and emotional parts, typically fast crust parts with D-beat driving force in drumming. This is the crust known from bands such Aus Spotten, Oroku and Recreant. This is good, more than expected. Available in bandcamp. There is another band from Sydney named Bædan, playing the same crust and i think they share members.

Terania-Demo 2015

I want to apologise to the band (and all bands that i haven't posted their work yet, this blog is almost dead and rarely there will be updates), anyway Terania is a noizy quartet and hails from Adelaide, Australia, they are a new raw punk band they have already shared the stage with Mob47(!) and Kromosom and here we have their demo, recorded in December 2014, "Two guitars, two vocals, filthy bass and punk rock drums. We draw on our backgrounds which collectively cover fastcore, powerviolence, grind, black metal, crust and anarcho-punk, but then boil it down to it's raw punk roots" The demo was "recorded at the Animal House through a live desk into a laptop and mastered in under twenty-four hours by Stuart Rose, the songs on the demo are about bike locks, fracking, the commercialisation of education, and welfare reform (in that order). We also sing about marsupial moles, coffee, coming a croppa, pirates, sleeping rough and a pile of other things, we even have a power violence song about kittens." The demo consists of four tracks of distorted and filthy raw punk, This is available in bandcampalong with lyrics. Apart from this demo, Terania appear Noise from Hell Vol 17 and Mania For Conquest Vol 1 digital compilations
Check them also in Tumblr and ReverbNation

Short Leash-Street Class EP

Short Leash come from Hellburne, Australia and Sreet Class is their first ep, they describe their band as "Sociopolitical hardcore punk with a mixed bag of influence and love for DIY culture". The ep is a totally diy effort since it was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band, it consists of eight "hardcore anthems wiht crust and Rockn Roll influences". This has its roots in US' hardcore (Black Flag etc), there are catchy riffs, fast drum paces, shouted vocals and decent sound quality, this is available in bandcamp and wish they had the lyrics there too, since titles such as Liberal Nazi sound very interesting.

Ex Craw-Extant

Ex-Craw come from Perth, Australia and Extant is their latest recording, they started back in 2008 or so as The Craw and released Figure 241. Single Abdominal Wound (Live Fast Die Young) cd in 2008, the 2009 demo, a four way split cd with Projekbabi, KrassKepala and Deathgrenade and the Primitive thrash split 7" with  Deathgrenade, they changed their name to Ex-Craw and released Extinct demo in 2011 and here is Extant, their latest recording from 2013. There are not physical copies of Exant, it was released by Anti Machine Records, a bandcamp label with  online releases and perhaps occasionally split releases, this is the last release of Ex-Craw under this name, they will be known as No Survivors from 2014 onwards. Extant consists of eight songs (including one intro) of powerful hardcore with catchy guitar riffs and amazing leading parts (check Only Death Will Last Forever which is my favorite track), most of songs move in fast and faster speed, only the intro and Servants have this mid-paced beat. This is totally DIY release, recording and mixing were made by one of band's guitarists. All and all this is a honest effort full of power and energy and much better than my expectations, it's been a long time since i m not into hardcore but i really liked that, if i were to make a hardcore cdr compilation i would put a couple of tracks from Extant. This is available on bandcamp along with other releases of Anti Machine Records, it will be a shame if this never come out in physical format

Negative Standards/Whitehorse-split 12"

First off i need to apologise to Will from Negative Standards for this long delay to post this, (and no,i never received a mail with your demo) but it is better late than later, hahaha anyway here we have a heavy as hell record with Oakland's Negative Standards and Aussie doomsters Whitehorse. The record was released by the German label Vendetta on vinyl in autumn 2013. Negative Standards deliver two songs and a hellish blending of crust, hardcore and doom/sludge, all delivered in darkness and heaviness heavinly influenced by His Hero Is Gone, Nux Vomica, Isis, From Monuments To Masses and such bands, the blending of such genres and the use of sound samples create a haunting and apocalyptic sonic landscape. This is dark and gloomy with fast crusty and black metal parts parts, creepy acoustic breaks, shouted/yelled crusty vocals and pessimistic lyrics. The second songs lasts "only" 2:17" and its an outbreak after the infernal journey of first track. Helbourne's Whitehorse are active since mid '00's, they have splits with Hot Graves, Cross, and Batillus under their belt and here they receive the baton from Negative Standards and move the dakrness to their own frondiers: Heavy as hell, sinister and brutal sludge/doom in the vein of Corrupted and Batillus in one lenghty track that last nearly thirteen minutes and is bold enough to drown you  into despair. Both bands offer their songs in bandcamp for free (along with their previous releases). No more rant, go and listen it. If you want a physical copy, this is still available from Vendetta.

Prag-Demo tape 2013

Here's something a little bit different: Prag come from Perth, western Australia, they include people of Helta Skelta and  Nervous Trend, The demo was recorded in 2013 and comes on tape format. Musically takes main influences from 80's Italian hardcore (Raw Power, Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, Declino etc), Spanish punk (Ultimo Resorte), Finnish hardcore (Kaaos), and L.A. punk such as The Germs. The tape consists of six songs and delivers a blending of the aforementioned bands in '00's sound: This is old school hardcore with modern sound, sometimes fast and raging and sometimes get the speed down to mid-paced pathways, vocals are angry and shouted and full of reverb and echoes, sound quality is decent. This is full of energy and power and avoids to be sloppy and boring. Without reinventing the wheel delivers some nice tunes by paying homage to their influences, as they say "The goal of the band was to do a modern take on classic Italian, Spanish and Finnish HC Punk". All and all this is a nice demo and old school hardoce fans will like it.This is going to come out in next month (December 2013) by Space Ritual ( a label run by a band member) and for next year there are plans for a 7 inch ep. The demo is available for free streaming/downloading in bandcamp, you can also warch it the youtube vid of it, here. Thanx to Jon for sending this and best wishes!

ABC Weapons-Exessum

There is no need for much ranting here: ABC Weapons were one of the most important crust bands from Australia, they released some great records and it's been a long time since they called it a day, members continued in other bands (Schifosi, Pisschrist, Kromosom).  Exessum is unreleased recorded material from 2006 that never saw the light of day on vinyl or cd format, Yellowdog Rec.s was supposed to release this and since things didn't work out, band members decided to upload it on bandcamp and sell it for only 5 AUD. Eight tracks of dark crust blending Tragedy with Scandinavian and Japanese hardcore. Along with the songs you get the lyrics.
You can download band's discography in Fugitive Equilibrium (thanx Marc!)

ExtinctExist-MMXIII demo tape 2013

Here we have a new band hailing from Melbourne, Australia and including members of Nuclear Death Terror, Pisschrist, ABC Weapons and others. MMXIII  is their fresh new demo tape, released by Blood of War Records a record label from Melbourne.  MMXIII stands for 2013 in Roman numbering, the tape comes with a band sticker, the cover artwork was made by Santi, the inlay includes lyrics and was printed on 100% recycled paper. Music wise the tape consists of four songs and delivers "totally bonecrushing, jawbreaking, fistclinching raw as fuck crust punk": Metal driven heavy and stenching crust, hard hitting drumming, heavy pounding bass and guitars delivering metallic riffs that sometime sound like being taken from a page of Slayer's book, actually from time to time even the rough brutal vocals sound like Tom Araya's singing. In other words, this is where crust and stenchore genre meets Slayer. Lyrics paint post-Apocalyptic images of death and destruction and fit with the music. Unfortunately the tape consists of only four songs (more of the same please!!!) but lasts nearly fifteen minutes, sound quality is excellent. I hope this is just a prelude for an upcoming official release on vinyl or cd. The demo is available for streaming in bandcamp and along with the music you have the lyrical content, for a physical copy contact the band via mail (here) or contact Blood of War Records. For direct connection, ExtinctExist have a farcebook page. In March 15th they are going to share the stage with Tragedy in The Reverence, Melbourne.

Dead Rivers Run Dry-demo 2012

A black metal break: Dead Rivers Run Dry send their metallic greetings from Australia, this is their first self-released work which consists of four songs of barbaric black metal and when Terrorizer mag writes good words about them then my crappy opinion doesn't count at all. This is black metal rooted in the second BM wave and without the typical clichés especially in the lyrical content where instead the usual occult stuff they bring some apocalyptic nightmares about environment destruction. Music wise they deliver frantic drum beating and solid bass, soul tormenting guitar riffs while the shrieking high pitched vocals complete the pessimistic landscape created by music. Here is a review taken from Heath Harvest and its waaayy better than my crap:
"It is a good sign when I find it easy to write a review for a release and this one flowed after just a few listens. Invoking desertification, corruption, and the entire post-apocalyptic milieu, Dead River Runs Dry are a newly forged Australian black metal assault. A vile and pessimistic atmosphere, raw and untrammeled by any instinct for civilization, marks the four tracks of this, their debut demo release (available for free download via the Bandcamp link provided below in the label line).
Dead River Runs Dry stick closely to the conventions and formulae of the black metal genre, but nonetheless deftly avoid the pitfalls of cliché and staleness that sometimes haunt the style. Each track offers a coarse slab of mid- to frantic-paced black metal, sometimes with some thrashier elements thrown into the mix to keep the edges ragged and flinty-sharp.
Wrapped around the guitar riffage is some very solid bass work and drumming, the rhythm section providing a tight and snarling structure for the music as a whole. The vocals ride over the instrumentation with an appropriately sickening shriek and gurgle, and occasional clean choirs add extra flesh to the performances.
This is not a band that channels anything bright or joyous; disgust and contempt strive in conflict with occasional remembrances of grandeur. All in all this tension conjures the harsh realities of a drought-laden continent – possibly in a few decades, all life stripped from its broad back.
Yet there is also a swagger and a strut to the songs, reminiscent of Serbian black metal band Kozeljnik. I suppose the recent violent history of the Balkans is to Kozeljnik’s brand of vileness what the rapidly decaying and desertifying Australian landscape is to Dead River Runs Dry’s distempered onslaught.
Black metal almost always seems to be in dialogue with the environment. Even the most apocalyptic and misanthropic of its manifestations is possessed of a certain horizonal drama; it sweeps down from mountains, sends oceans churning, and sets forests ablaze. The challenge for Australian black metal has always been to find a sound that suits the local climate and geography (rather than incongruous invocations of the frost-bitten north). In this respect Dead River Runs Dry seem to be succeeding admirably.
The music also attempts to dive into the pit of humanity’s responsibility for the environmental disaster presently sweeping the planet. This is courageous, creatively speaking, when compared to the fantasy- land-nature-worship nostalgia some artists are guilty of committing. In short, then: the very promising musical content offered on this demo is supported by a mature complex of ideas and spiritual questions.
All in all, a well produced and performed demo release, from a band that sounds like it has the stamina to carve out an ideological hell hole all of its own in the barren wastes of the Australian desert. Prophetic, sun-blasted, and antagonistic from start to finish."
