    5. Finally, false narratives on the origin of COVID-19 remain widespread. Social media companies need to keep proactively removing COVID-19 disinformation, citizens and journalists should question the intentions of online actors before possibly amplifying misleading voices. /End

    4. Platforms are proactively removing COVID-19 disinformation (good!). YouTube for example adjusted its search algorithm to remove conspiratorial autocomplete suggestions. Compare autocomplete screenshots from March 31 and March 22 for 新冠病毒 ("novel coronavirus"):

    2. Chinese state media has crafted various narratives about the pandemic over time, carrying sometimes conflicting theories. One trend: shifting from suspicions of the exact animal origin (late January) to suspicions about the geographic origin of the virus (late February).

Taiwan folks: Do you know about any allegations/proof of TV channel EBC (東森電視) or the owner Chang Kao-hsiang (張高祥) having close ties with the government in Beijing?

    6. I am a bit relieved after seeing how people are (finally) taking this seriously despite us not being on lockdown. Also glad that despite some general anxiety, people are friendly, patient, and keeping their distance.

Going forward, the combination of franchising & virtually-undetectable financial support will make gauging authenticity of media outlets harder for disinfo researchers, & will create tough decisions for platforms about whether behavior violates their terms of service.
