    Now approaches 40,000 acres as it burns overnight in the hills above Monrovia and Sierra Madre and moves in the general direction of Mt. Wilson where it could possibly threaten the historic Observatory and broadcast towers worth over a billion dollars.

    Day 8 36,344 acres burned, 56 sq miles slightly larger than the city of Anaheim. Fire is terrain and fuel driven. 305 homes in Arcadia under evacuation order, other cities on evac warning status. 888 firefighters on scene, Firehawks making water drops.

    now at 26,300 acres(41 sq miles) US Forest Service Hotshot crew at north end of fire near Angeles Crest Highway. Helicopter assist and Firing out operations might stop fire from jumping road into dense Tree heavy area.

    Flames moving South, downhill from Monrovia Peak towards homes on ridges in Duarte & Monrovia. Flames have a ways to go before they hit dozer, camp crew containment lines and phoschek drops done on hillsides yesterday. Evacuation warnings still in effect.

    homes in northern Monrovia are either evacuated or have people taking final steps to prepare to leave if fire comes down canyons filled with dense brush. Some fire engines are already moving in to stage on certain streets.

    Santa Ana Police respond to high rise apt on Mc Arthur Place. 3 people shot, bullet goes through window on 15th floor apt where part of the shooting took place. 2 handguns recovered. Victims & witnesses being interviewed. Suspect still outstanding.

    now at 2500 + acres still moving to Northwest into the Angeles Nat. Forest. No homes damaged, air assault suspended for the night. Major part of fight ahead will involve hand crews and dozers with Air Power backup. Friday WX forecast 100 degree temps low RH.
