    The whole poem relies heavily on Islamic symbolism. The Allah of this poem is a very specific Muslim Allah, not the general God (jab zulm o satam ke koh-e-giraan rooi ki tarah urr jaaen ge: reference to Surat ul Asar). >>

    Tbh, jab arz e khuda ke qaabay se sab butt uthvaae jaaen ge can be seen as offensive in a different context. It’s Faiz pandering to the populist narrative in his home country where his life was under threat, and where he needed to carve some relatibility.

    Faculty member at an Indian university (IIT) filed a complaint against students for singing Hum Dekhain Gay. He claims that Faiz sb's poem is anti-Hindu. IIT has set up a panel to decide on the matter. Not sure if one should laugh or cry at madness engulfing the sub-continent.
