Reciprocity between Labour and England's mining belt has been declining for years. Yes it was about Brexit and Corbyn - but it was also about a strategic attitude sown decades ago. Labour has spent years gesturing up the M1 at its 'red wall' without ever checking the bricks.

  8. Labour's foothold in England's mining belt has been weakening for years, writes Craig Gent. Rebuilding trust and confidence will require a patient process involving hard truths - and no amount of hot takes on social media will change that.

They monstered Corbyn for years & after he says he’ll resign the media produces this video basically eulogising how principled & decent he always has been. It’s like when Tony Benn was asked how he became a national treasure: “Because they think I’m harmless now”

Those who argued for remaining in the EU lost the 2016 referendum, the 2019 European election and the 2019 General Election. In 2014 UKIP won the European elections while in 2015 the Tories + UKIP won 49% of the vote. At what point is this accepted?

For the avoidance of all doubt, I’m more often than not at odds with and have disagreements with and — but the threats to ‘investigate’ them or exclude them from any coverage is extremely chilling.

Multiple failures have partly defined the Corbyn project. Sadly a fruitful conversation about that is almost impossible as aggro-centrists offer same predictable analysis. I say ‘almost’ because at we’ll be offering a productive space to do precisely that.

Disaster nationalism has just cut through swathes of Labour's former safe seats, having been forced into a Brexit election to which there was no easy solution. It is a momentous defeat, and we have to own it - writes

Like everyone else, I am in mourning. For the victims of austerity and the hostile environment, the crushing defeat of a bold reformist campaign, and those who put so much passionate work in and are now being slimed in the media. I’ve written this.
