They’re also upset that I stated 66 “choices” is too many. It is! Healthcare is not H&M. Insurance is a complex financial product for the doctor. Costs are skyrocketing largely due to the financialization of our health. Streamlining our system & covering more isn’t a bad thing.

It's weird how many people in the US think there must be some horrible catch to universal health care, e.g. the replies here citing scare statistics about wait times or taxes or whatever. We're so indoctrinated into thinking it has to be this way.

I spent 16 years in HR navigating “choice” for our employees, chiseling down hundred of options to just a few. The
#ACA Marketplace is a HORRIBLE example of choice and is confusing AF even for me. I think most people just choose at random between price range.... or give up. -
The
#ACA Marketplace is what corporations paid me six figures to wade through to make sure our employees had good care and the company has competitive benefits. Now, hell, we’re bagging our own groceries for free...#shadowlabor#MedicareForAll#SinglePayer - 2 more replies

In theory, we all like more choice. The reality is that we struggle to choose across products that we don't understand, and so we end up feeling frustrated and making poorer choices. https://www.amazon.com/dp/087154444X/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_xH59DbP42KMR0 …pic.twitter.com/VbNfcHVHvY

Exactly. The ACA required certain baselines because having some measure of standardization is the only way for people to compare apples to apples... even if you knew with perfect clairvoyance what your medical needs would be that year.
