I'm a huge fan of the in-season tournament and I predict it'll be a success. But it's important to have the appropriate incentives. I'd rather see how it goes as is with cash as the incentive for players and coaches. No reason to give a pick yet. Players will care, so fans will.

I’m not a fan of a first round pick as compensation. It’s a demotivator for many players when that pick could eventually be their cheap replacement. Just keep the cash prize and make the tourney games count toward the season standings, which as I recently reported was discussed.

Obviously would never happen, but an in-season tournament as a 3-on-3 would be great. Same incentives, provides some rest for players, a different kind of ball for fans.

Solution: Hold the opening round of the NBA's mid-season tournament on Christmas Day. Top 4 seeds host. Winners advance to a neutral site "Final Four"-style event, with the championship game on New Year's Eve

Proposal: Christmas games should be earned. Let’s have an element of surprise in the schedule. The teams that are playing well are the ones that needs to be playing on Christmas Day. Reward the teams just like we reward players with an in season AllStar game.
