I'm a huge fan of the in-season tournament and I predict it'll be a success. But it's important to have the appropriate incentives. I'd rather see how it goes as is with cash as the incentive for players and coaches. No reason to give a pick yet. Players will care, so fans will.

I’m not a fan of a first round pick as compensation. It’s a demotivator for many players when that pick could eventually be their cheap replacement. Just keep the cash prize and make the tourney games count toward the season standings, which as I recently reported was discussed.

The winner should get home court throughout the playoffs. That’s the only way to make it work.

Obviously would never happen, but an in-season tournament as a 3-on-3 would be great. Same incentives, provides some rest for players, a different kind of ball for fans.

Solution: Hold the opening round of the NBA's mid-season tournament on Christmas Day. Top 4 seeds host. Winners advance to a neutral site "Final Four"-style event, with the championship game on New Year's Eve
