    There is language of learning (or medium) and language of communication. They do NOT have to be the same. Research proves we learn best in the mother tongue. For communication one can always learn languages as needed. India does not need one *medium*.

    Thought for new year: India's great patriotic kings who fought the British until their dying breath: 1) Siraj-ud-daulah Battle of Plassey 2) Tipu Sultan at Seringapatam. 3) Sepoys of 1857 raised up Bahadur Shah Zafar as the last enduring symbol of India's struggle for freedom. 🙏

    la illah illa allah. Naturally Islamic fundamentalists will always be defended by no matter which side the attack comes from. Her faith holds strong.

    I defended the right of Ayesha and Ladeeda to be who they are and applauded their bravery in shielding their male friends from police lathis. I will defend that right against both the right and the left. CPM response absolutely wrong. Right wing was savage. Left intolerant.

    16/n In the novel this is the last sentence in Tipu Sultan's address to a large assembly of Indian & French officers. It is not an actual address delivered by Tipu; but cooked up in Gidwani‘s novel. I challenge any Eminent Historian to prove me wrong. outsource

    Glad to see that the issues raised are getting more well-known.

    As for CAA being discriminatory on religious grounds, A29/30 of our constitution from 1950 discriminates against 80% Hindus by giving special rights to linguistic and religious minorities,20% of pop of which 15% is Muslim! Is this ok?

    Kaffir who'd be fodder from Islamists cheering their own future beheadings as a gift that keeps on giving for its delusions. And no, being an "atheist" won't save you either.

    From one slogan to jihad, of course. This nonsense logic is that kind of stuff that debases movements, not the sloganeering. This is a movement against a government that has systemically disenfranchised the Muslims and the Muslim identity is central to it.

    When Islamists and seculars get into an argument on how best to deny persecuted Hindus shelter. Islamists say deny them—they are kaffirs. Seculars say deny them—we are "secular" and in secular India Hindus must not be sheltered.

    This is cringe level politics. NRC is anti-poor, anti women, anti Constitutional, & anti Muslim + Jew. If you're going to make it only about Muslims, you do a disservice to those who are standing for liberty. Don't hijack an all India movement only to help BJP with polarization.
