    1st April 1990 a thousand prisoners riot in Strangeways Prison in Manchester, protesting the primitive conditions and severe overcrowding. The riot at Strangeways would go on to last 25 days, the longest in British penal history.

    1 Apr 1914 the longest schoolchildren's strike in the UK began in Norfolk. Pupils at the Burston school walked out in support of two unfairly sacked teachers and started their own school with funds from the workers' movt. It lasted for over 25 years
