SF has always been and will remain the boom town teetering the edge of civilization and chaos ... and that breeds opportunity— but man, I always forget that NYC is THE real city.

As pointed out to me long ago... Space Ghost concisely explains the fundamental challenge of discourse on the internet...

Question: do a lot / many high schools just straight up ban mobile phones for students during the school day? It seems like that is a pretty reasonable thing to do (leave phone in locker powered off?)

I just learned that our 7 month old’s kids music class has an app. Ridiculous. I must live in San Francisco.

I deeply admire Mark's consistent commitment to free speech. It isn't an easy position to hold - it forces you to accept all sorts of short term costs and criticism ...  But history shows it is the right long term position

I really don’t understand why people hate on email so much... I feel like it is nearly perfect communication medium for actually getting things done. Asynch, triage-able, seach, forces process discipline, open platform, etc

Think about the three parts of a bank as holding assets, research, and transactions. In 90s banks got in trouble because the transaction bankers leaned on research to pump offerings. 20 years later the challenge is transaction bankers pumping while funds sell assets.

This is a hilariously lo-fi rendering of Foxcon's proposal for a Wisconsin center. I could have told you they were going to yank the project based on this alone... looks like they invested literally dozens of minutes in it :)

3/ This seems like a move that achieves that for him. If he gives the Chinese literally anything now, he will get domestically skewered re: why he gave anything up / what secret deal was made... which (-again if this really were his thinking-) is pretty brilliant.

2/ if you wanted to give trump a lot of credit, you would say that a key element of negotiation is figuring out how to tie your own hands / to make it impossible for you to compromise (and make sure the person you are negotiating against knows definitively you can't compromise)

1 / Trying to catch up on this 'Trump tells china to investigate Biden' in context of 'trade war' thing... I am always wary of giving people not enough or too much credit on 'strategy' ...
