Fellow law profs, let's give thanks for the tireless, talented colleagues who spent the last 30 years laboring to create an America where guns and politics have merged. I for one will never forget.

I want to share my personal Covid-19 story, from my infection in March to the ongoing struggle with long-term effects, even four months later. Too many people are still unconcerned about the pandemic. Maybe hearing from those who had the disease can change that. 1/

The National Archives holds more than 1,000 pension files of Buffalo Soldiers. In 2019, citizen archivists and volunteers scanned 2,055 pages from 19 pension files during a one-day scan-a-thon in the Innovation Hub.

For a party that claims to love order and value “the smartest guys in the room” (even letting them pick The Woman VP!) they seem oblivious to the fact that sacrificing millions to capitalism’s miseries in a pandemic is not a great stabilizing act.

    1. Here's a short thought experiment that might help students or others understand why historians today reject "states' rights" as the cause of the Civil War. Imagine that 150 years from now, someone tells you that conservatives in 2020 were defenders of states' rights ...

Don’t have time to do a long thread on the F-35, but it serves no strategic purpose. It’s the latest in a long line of technological boondoggles, an objective representation of ideological and material interests that animate the military-industrial complex since 1945. 1/

This is rightly a small part of the racism in higher ed conversation, but it is important to note that having a racist campus environment is also bad for white students bc racism is antisocial, immoral, destabilizing, & deeply destructive. It is the antithesis of education.

I find it fascinating that the national race shifted from around Biden +4 to Biden +8 after the George Floyd murder and hasn't reverted back. This after months of protests and, in some cases, riots. I'm wondering which voters actually changed opinion.

With less than 100 days until the election, we should expect to see an onslaught of disinformation directed toward Black people to suppress their vote. Black Studies scholars can play a special role in countering these efforts with grassroots, on the ground information campaigns.

This is a reminder that the push to remove Confederate monuments is not the work of outside agitators. In some cases it is coming from people who lived their entire lives in southern communities.
