    Can anyone think of a more pig-headed, craven, counterproductive, and downright evil US foreign policy decision than the abandonment of the Kurds to Erdogan and Assad?

    We don't know exactly where Assad will take over. And we don't know if this will bring an immediate halt to the Turkish offensive. But we do know this is a death knell for Kurdish hopes of maintaining autonomy from Assad in their semi-state in northeast Syria.

    It's truly uncanny how virtually every one of Trump's seemingly impetuous, impulsive foreign-policy decisions is always to Russia's benefit.

    There are widespread reports that the Kurds are allowing Assad regime troops to take control of Kobani, Qamishli, Manbij, and other key cities. The deal was apparently brokered in a meeting with Russian commanders earlier.

    If it's true (again it's unconfirmed) it is desperately sad news. The Kurdish experiment in autonomy in NE Syria was not perfect. But for many it was a hopeful spot of freedom in a region full of horror and tyranny.

    It's very early and the situation is very fluid. But it may be that we see a fullscale Kurdish surrender to the Assad regime tonight. Abandoned by the US, it looks like SDF will try to spare their cities from Turkish onslaught by allowing Syrian forces to take them over.

    I've been working on the Middle East a long time and I have no idea what these words mean

    Do you remember two years ago when Iraq was going to fight the Kurds in a different part of Syria. Many people wanted us to fight with the Kurds against Iraq, who we just fought for. I said no, and the Kurds left the fight, twice. Now the same thing is happening with Turkey......

    Turkey's Syrian rebel allies are accused of executing Kurdish civilians as they advance. Some are chanting jihadist slogans. Others seem motivated by money. Either way, it's hard to believe Turkey's claim that these guys will be effective against .
