Wed. 4/16/14 8:23pm
Holly in NC:
Re wedding soup: Greens & wee meatballs, usually also pasta or other things. yum yum yum "“Wedding soup” came about through a [n Italian-American] misinterpretation of the Italian words “minestra maritata” which means “married soup”. While it has the word “married” in it the name does not refer to literal marriage but rather a figurative one involving the ingredients in the soup. In other words, the edible delights go so well together that it was known as “married soup”. Over the years the meaning was construed to be associated with marriage and renamed “wedding soup”.
Wed. 4/16/14 8:23pm

@pss - I also love Turkish wedding soup, which in my world = a garlickly, coriandery red lentil soup finished with a silly amount of mint butter (I got the recipe from a hippie health food store eons ago - now swallowed by the great Whole Foods maw ). Anyway, seems that in reality Turkish wedding soup = a flour-thickened lamb or mutton soup. Hm.

I will "blend action" it to you, carol, perforce!

The Mexican market closest to me makes 3 kinds of cremas and several varities of cheeses, including homemade string cheese which is scary cheap & addictive, perfect for babysitting. The cremas are dangerous.....

I NEED a cone for the darn cat who is my avatar. She (Bitty) was obsessively licking herself this morning, so I gently nudged her away from my legs as she was driving me nuts. So she glared, took 1 step and hairballed on my bed and Will Friedwald's "Jazz Singing". Now the little monster is curled up in my lap, purring, trying to climb on the keyboard of course.
Wed. 4/16/14 9:30pm
