Victoria: Banner in Solidarity with the Hambi 9 Forest Defenders in Germany

February 5, 2018 – Solidarity from so-called Victoria, Australia, with imprisoned comrades from the Hambach forest occupation in Germany. On January 22nd, cops raided tree houses and barricade structures in the forest, and took 9 people into custody. We took this photo as a small part of the international day of solidarity with the Hambi 9 on February 3rd.

The occupation has for years now been an amazing and inspiring site of resistance against the continued expansion of Europe’s largest coal mine. It is part of a global struggle against ecological destruction brought on by capitalism.

Malmsbury: Staff members assaulted in Youth Detention Centre riot

15 May – Three staff members have been assaulted after inmates began rioting at the Malmsbury Youth Detention Centre in Victoria.

Emergency services remain at the facility after a group of youths began causing trouble about 2.45pm, police said.

Three staff members were assaulted, and two were treated by paramedics.

One male staff member, aged in his 30s, has been taken to Bendigo Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police said damage has been done to the centre.

Investigations are ongoing.

The riot is the latest in a string of violent incidents at Malmsbury this year.

In January, a group of six inmates escaped the facility and stole three cars before being arrested by police.

Victoria: Anti-Fascist Legal Fees Fundraiser

23 Sept – We need help paying fines.

Following a recent anti fascist rally in Bendigo, a protester was slapped with $1200 of fines for burning the Australian flag – something which is not even a criminal offense – charged with “littering” and “inciting a riot”. Fascist rally-goers were not charged with anything despite making vile rape and murder threats against antifascist protesters.

Victoria: flag stolen from school

February 25: (Redesdale, central Victoria) Mia Mia Primary School principal Kathy Vella is angry after someone stole the school’s Australian flag last week.

The theft of the flag from the school’s flagpole, along with the connecting ropes, was discovered by Ms Vella when she arrived for school on February 13.

The theft comes after a string of vandalism attacks on the school that began at the start of fourth term last year.

Victoria: riot police squad to double

From The Age: VICTORIA Police is set to more than double its squad of anti-riot officers in a move that new Chief Commissioner Ken Lay says is partly a response to television images of rioting mobs in England last year.
