Really good set, Gary. Your show is easily my favorite at WFMU.. one of my top three or four all-time radio shows, and I've listened to college/community radio thirty years. You introduce new sounds.. never disappoint | |
![]() |
![]() Aw, thanks, David! But is musicians what makes the goodness; I just press buttons |
![]() |
![]() ...but I think it's more or less the Dizzy Gillespie tune : www.youtube.com... - that was one of the earliest Latin Jazz standards...The Beatles were actually pretty open to Latin rhythms ('Twist & Shout' - a dance song - if you think about it!)... |
![]() |
![]() There's a terrific book I want to go back to that traces a lot of Latin influences in US (tho not British) pop ... trying to remember the title |
![]() |
![]() ...more obvious 'Latin Beatles' example was 'Don't Bother Me', George's 1st song off their 2nd album... |

![]() hyde, i never told you the irrelevant fact that there's at least one person and some of that person's friends that call me hyde, even though that's not my name...because i remind him of Hyde on "that 70's show", which i'm not sure how to take! (though he means it as a compliment) |

@coelacanth well, here's a related tidbit of info! someone associated with "that 70's show" (i'm not entirely sure if it was a writer or producer) went to high school with my older brother and they used the name because they thought it was cool. the character has nothing to do with my brother, but they liked the name (and associated references) |
![]() |
![]() wow, that's really cool! it was because he knew of you. not everyone gets to say a tv character was (sort of) named after him! |

it's funny, i actually watched the show for a couple years before i ever knew that fact. there are three hyde brothers in my family separated by many years and somehow we all ended up being called "hyde" by all our friends instead of by our first names. i guess it's just one of those things. |
