    Back during the 1998-2012 14-year warming "pause" everyone was fixated on it; now we are in the midst a 2005-2019 14-year warming "acceleration" that is just as far above the long term trend as the "pause" was below it. 1/2

    Drawing conclusions about the long-term trend from a selected 14 year period is not very meaningful. At the same time, I can't help noticing there are relatively few academic papers or misguided breathless articles trying to explain the "acceleration"!

    This post is also very popular with the denierati ever since of pretended it supported their case. In their effort to create load of nonsense posts to simulate a large active movement apparently no one ever even read the first paragraph.

    'For a scientist referring to a consensus is not an option in his own area of expertise. Saying "everyone believes this" is not a scientific argument (...) For a normal person, I find it completely acceptable to say, I hold this view because most of the worlds scientists agree.'

    At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior - it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it.

    Sorry I made an error here, these 112 countries are *updating* their nationally determined contributions. While the report emphasises that plans are thought to become more ambition, an "update" can also mean that data has been improved.

    Conservative Commission President-elect wants EU “to become the first climate-neutral continent in the world by 2050” "The EU’s GHG emissions were down 22% from 1990 levels in 2017...while the economy grew by 58% over the same period, outperforming a 2020 goal of a cut of 20%."

    At least 112 nations, representing 53% of GHG emissions, have signalled their intend to do more than previously pledged. 53 countries currently working on Long-Term Strategies for phasing out of GHGs from their economies by the second half of the century.

    The is facing its first major test when countries update & improve their national plans next year. New - report shows direction of action is promising, but pace isn't yet sufficient. Read the REPORT here:

    Climate change: 'Invest $1.8 trillion to adapt' Trillion with a T. Similar to Trump's tax cuts for the rich. But globally. Such an investment could produce net benefits worth more than $7 trillion, four times the investment.

    I must admit, the protests were too big for my taste. (The number of participants is impossible to count for a normal participant.) Will regenerate tomorrow with some forest bathing. 🌳🙂
