Dream Weapons present: LORD DEATH’S COUNTING SONG C90

https://yadi.sk/d/XsUmFPg7-itZFg

This whole idea sort of came to me while listening through an ongoing impressive stack of shares on Die or D.I:Y? containing music by (occasionally perverted, mass murderous) cults and all sorts of far out religious music.

-I went about compiling this pretty much like I’d direct a low budget exploitaiton film about a wacko cult (leader): A beautiful intro with happy children holding hands while dancing, laughing and singing in a field - then the screen goes black, a delightfully eerie main theme starts and the title appears in awesome blood red fonts... or something. After the whole cast, producer, director-routine there’ll be a section showing seemingly innocent everyday life in the cult… Long beards and hair, bellbottoms, singing, nudity/orgies and Jesus sandals… But because they are batshit crazy things take a nasty turn. From there on it’ll just be a bunch of (beautifully shot) semirelated disturbing scenes until all hell/heaven breaks loose and everyone dies. End titles. Hey I never said I could direct!

It depends a little on where you'd draw the line but I suppose less than half of the performers here were actual cult members. Whether scary, naive, beautiful or pure evil its mostly some kind of religious music and mainly Christian (+some occult, pagan etc... stuff). A handful of tunes are «secular/neutral» but moodwise appropriate soundscapes I simply needed to create a killer mix for you all -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: COLONIAL SPACE TOURS C90

https://yadi.sk/d/3YFY62Z4qcitHg

Before I scrapped my original cover, inital idea and most of the content (but kept the title), the concept I went for was something like a travel agency or an intergalactic «Lonely Universe» travel book guide for future colonial space tourists. The end result is closer to this «pulp sci-fi» cover art - predominantly filled with stirring synth licks, drum machines and vocoders. Some new waveish songs as well, but all in all sounding much like the imagined soundtrack for a cheapish sci-fi flick anno ca. 1980 my visual presentation suggests  -Moahaha

A Prabha Devi (☾︎) / Moahaha (♌︎) collaboration without any real plan or concept that turned out like this: Taking off in a sort of festive African, Arab & occasionally South East Asian mode. Dream Weapons present: UNHEIMLICH C60

https://yadi.sk/d/Z_k4SpkAY0gYmg

The common understanding of unheimlich is defined in Sigmund Freud's essay "Das Unheimliche" (published in 1919) where he explores the eeriness of dolls and strangeness in the ordinary. A few layers of meaning gets lost when translated into «uncanny», but its still about something both familiar and unfamiliar. Potentially it can be comforting and discomforting simultaneously. «Oh, that’s just the attic ghost again» or «you look exactly like me!». An «other» kind of haunting beauty is what I was going for. But don’t let my ramblings get in the way for you to decide for yourself -Moahaha

20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: SUNWARD C60

https://yadi.sk/d/wSUO9cjJbHerEQ

Exotica tends to get lumped into the easy listening-section. But although a thing of beauty its often got a remarkably eerie and dramatic atmosphere. A lot of «serious music» is surely an easier listen… Anyway to spice things up a little extra in between all the hip beach and jungle-soundscapes I’ve managed to dig up seven wondrously exotic vintage songs for you as well. If you dig this stuff even half as much as I do, you’re in for a real treat! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: (DIS)COMFORT ZONE C90

https://yadi.sk/d/CJsGToHLiLmKQA

A further out and sonically more challenging version of my largely academic or modern classical (Un)Modern-mix. Packed with intriguing soundscapes and strange beauty galore but darker, more twisted and dissonant than its predecessor. All that aside I still tried to include only works that had a seductive or inviting quality to them. Anyone reading this has got to be at least a little bit musically adventurous - so this could be just a walk in the soundpark for some of you -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: ARIRANG MOUNTAIN PASS (SONG SEARCH VOL. 2) C60

https://yadi.sk/d/Y57as9nGpkEVzQ

To keep things fresh and exiting for the second volume I’ve collected about as many 60’s/70’s dreamy pop and folk-grooves as those gorgeous trot-oldies we've all come to love. One gripping duet and a couple of instrumentals - but basically just ladies singing from beginning to end - ‘cause most of their male South Korean counterparts ruins potentially great tunes with an excessive vibrato. Here’s the slightly adjusted, short version of the backstory written for Volume 1:

-Many moons ago a former flatmate had this wondrous 1960’s or early 70’s female fronted, South Korean Trot/folk-pop record that we used to spin all the time. In my unsuccessful search for that original album I came across hours of enchanting folk, pop and gentle trot-oldies from the same era instead. Here’s another hour of "accidental" song discoveries and if you fail to find anything to love, I’m afraid you better go see a cardiologist asap -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE SYNTHETIC CHRYSALIS C60

https://yadi.sk/d/1j0x2tde87PHWA

For the first time in ages we proudly present: a guest mix! As you’ll hear and see our friend MVM has his own distinct voice and esthetics - but still somehow fits in perfectly:

-I have always been drawn to music in films, and especially the not-so-great ones; Primarily from the early to mid-eighties, which are often synth-laden. The music has this great organic quality. “The Synthetic Chrysalis”, as the name suggests, tries to encapsulate that (though not synth-oriented). And as the life from a chrysalis to a butterfly slowly evolves, this mix follows the same path. The sculpture on the cover is by the late great Ken Price - a favorite artist of mine for a long time -MVM

A

Marc Barreca - Community Life
Doxa Sinistra -  The Other Stranger
Diseño Corbusier - Meta Metalic
Amedeo Tommasi: Calma Apparente
James Dashow - Sequenza Bosco - Fuga (Theme From "Oedipus Orca»)
Klaus Weiss - Into The Wind
Demolition Group - You Better Stay Alive

B

Zazou-Nodland-Lema - Stranger in the New Light
Izzanelli & Samy Wathson - Givre Astral
Anton Ignorant - Banal
Ströer Duo - Vietnam
Yoran - Montparnasse
Lena Platonos - Erotes to Kalokairi (loves in the summer)
Williams Grossart - Morning Dew
Rexy - Running Out Of Time

Dream Weapons present: BIRDS OF A FEATHER C90

https://yadi.sk/d/QdBNTjzpDWRuxw

Or «Birds of a feather flock together» as the full proverb goes. The original idea was to collect about a dozen sweet songs and team them up with one matching instrumental each - while maintaining a continuous flow. That proved a little too difficult but I came rather close with these 17x2 neighborly oldies. At least the instrumental-song-instrumental and so fourth-structure is intact. Easy on the ears in a similar fashion Edmund Dulac’s enchanting cover illustration is easy on the eyes -Moahaha

20ft Radio & Dream Weapons present: TVEKLANG C60

https://yadi.sk/d/LmYh_ia4FWN_Gw

5x2 vintage analogue electro/acoustic (but not electroacoustic) tunes of shimmering beauty and dreamlike moods to set your mind adrift. Primarily.

«Tve» is Norwegian and means two-or double but as a split… like the forked tongue of a snake. Klang is similar to reverb, but the latter can’t be used in a context such as «complimentary colors forms a harmonious tveklang» - so its not exactly the same. But most of all I think it just sounds and look right for the content of this mix. -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: LA FLOR DE SUR C60

https://yadi.sk/d/S4ixQeS4DE-HuA

All kinds of post-war oldies with musical traditions of either Mexican, Spanish, South American or Caribbean origins. As long as the tune got some distinct latin beat and blends in with the rest I don’t really care if the ensembles are actually from those parts of the world or South East Asia, France, North America… or wherever. La Flor de Sur translates into «Flower of the South» or «Southern Flower» (I hope). Prepare for melodramatic voices, great melodies, infectious rhythms and just plain old fun! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE HIGH PRIESTESS C90

https://yadi.sk/d/R6eUjbKd-soarQ

Basically the same theme as my Fourth World-mix. Which means more ethnic/oriental/folk/latin/psych/spiritual jazzfusion-grooves with flutes and percussion aplenty. Good vibes for bad times. The kind of jazzy jams that makes me regret never learning to play an instrument. Four out of the eighteen gems on The High Priestess features female bandleaders. Dream Weapons present: THE GIRL WHO COLLECTED THE BONES OF THE DEER C60

https://yadi.sk/d/xdHv6nqQJ73TMQ

The full title includes «Macedonian folk songs & dances». Although loving this kind of music dearly I’m certainly not an expert. I think its safe to state that it shares many similarties with Balkan music though. Skillfully composed and rhythmically complex - yet so full of emotion and catchy that you’ll be in tears while humming along to the lively melodies simultaneously. Mostly women singing their hearts out as usual - but also a few male voices and a handful of heavy dance tunes/improvisations. My understanding is that this style of folk with a pop sensibility of sorts was quite popular in 60’s/70’s Eastern Europe - which is the period these songs were recorded. Maybe I’ve unknowingly included some monster-hit(s) here, but it’ll be new to most of you listeners out there anyway.

-Moahaha

Btw: search the full title of the mix and learn about the perversely bizarre Macedonian folk/fairytale that its taken from. Trust me its worth it. Seriously messed up.

For years now I’ve been certain that I scraped the barrel for quality yuletide tunes the previous year. But no - there's no end to xmas-gems if you know how-and where to look for them. Some of these lovelies are actually leftovers from Christmases past. But its common knowledge that some leftovers are better than when it was made fresh.

Here’s mostly folk, latin and lightly jazzy seasonal oldies - as always. Starts off (and ends) on a somewhat (beautifully) serious note but it gets all the more festive throughout. I’ll leave you with this call from A Christmas Carol:

Dream Weapons present: I HEAR VOICES C90

https://yadi.sk/d/xCvOBQxmZ0TaFw

I had already started collecting tunes for this mix of mine simultaneously as Sadhu Sadhu mentioned his similarily themed Mouth of Truth. His approach was quite unlike I Hear Voices. But I too present to you a smörgåsbord of human emotions expressed through the use of voice-or voices as the running theme. I always had a soft spot for spoken word done with genuine musicality - and half of the material included is musically accompanied poetry and tales. While the rest is primarily wondrous folksongs, or the more abstracted «voice as an instrument» kind of soundscapes. As often before this mix is darkly flavored, jazzy, folky, psychedelic and occasionally far out and experimental.

‘They are always different, they are always the same' as John Peel once famously remarked about the The Fall. I wouldn’t know as I’ve only ever heard about a handful of tunes by them (and they all sounded the same to me, lol sorry). But it’s very well-formulated. -Moahaha

1 Samy Birnbach & Benjamin Lew - Little Birds Sit On Your Shoulders
2 Nya Ljudbolaget - Minnesvisa
3 Rosalie Sorrels - Report from Grimes Creek
