Los Yetis- Nadaismo A-Go-Go! (Munster, 2009)

"Compilation of the wildest moments of the best sixties garage-pop band from Colombia. 21 Nadaist (revolutionary pre-punk movement) tracks about war, revolution and girls. Both formats include previously unseen band photos and extensive notes. In 1966, a certain go-go fever takes over Medellín. The name of the virus: LOS YETIS. The city, one of the most conservative in Colombia, started to feel the shakes in its foundations as thousands of teenagers danced to the new sound, willing to distance themselves from the tango and bolero favoured by their parents. To achieve this, what better than the go-go spirit embodied by a fury and abominable snowman? Their true entrance to the music industry comes in February 1966 through the record label Discos Fuentes, with the support of a promotion strategy unheard-of in Colombia until then. They would become the new idols of thousands of teenagers infected by the go-go craze that The Beatles had originated a few years earlier. Los Yetis combined covers of international hits with their own songs, which, even if a little tame, had a wild spirit and lyrics with attitude set to beat, surf and garage rhythms." (Munster)

San Ul Lim- Vols 1-12

"San Ul Lim (translated as 'That Mountain Echo', alternate spellings include 'Sanulim', 'Sanullim' and 'San Ul Rim') was formed by three brothers born of privilege in Seoul, South Korea. With confidence gained from endless practicing and competing in a university student song contest, they approached record label SRB (because it was near their house!) and recorded their first album in just one day.
Upon its release in 1977, the LP sold over a half-million copies and paved the way for many further volumes. The songs are full of fuzz guitar, tinny keyboards and simple production, reminding one of the American garage and pop-psychedelic groups from the sixties, but with an Asian flavor. " -Weirdo Records

My buddy Grover had been hyping San Ul Lim to me for weeks now. Last night, he loaned me their complete discography (on vinyl), so I could hear their freaked-out fuzzy Korean psych wildness for myself. My plan was going to digitize them, for him & for you, but now I'm not so sure. Not because San Ul Lim doesn't rule (they do), but because some other folks in this here blogosphere have cut me to the chase. I see that the Bastards blog has posted their complete discography, including a 2 record best of compilation. I'm downloading as I type. If their rips are up to snuff, I see no need to go through all that effort of recording, editing & tagging San Ul Lim records, myself.

So anyways, I'm off to the zoo today with my son Amos & two of his pals. I highly recommend downloading some Sun Ul Lim. If any of ya'll get to downloading their posted discography, would you, could you comment here on their relative sound quality: Should I post my own rips or leave well-enough alone? Do any particular albums need an upgrade? That kind of thing....Paz.

Reportage- Spela Själv (1970)

Weirdo Swedish commune psych from 1970.

february 2010 release ; picture-perfect reissue of this highly obscure(d) 1970 lp (originally released on the pre-caprice expo norr label alongiside sides by thorkell sigurbjörnsson, karl-birger blomdahl, and others) featuring a bunch of amazing field-recorded & tape-sound laced folk-psych instrumentals captured & channeled by solveig bark & tråd grås och stenar / (international) harvester / pärson sound’s bo anders persson ...

travelling throughout sweden that year (landing at many of the yearly festivals more famously worked by tgos & ih-offshoots ) bark & persson both documented & participated in an improvised array of ad-hoc violin, hand-percussion, mouth-harp and bass/guitar/harp “jams”, captured in-situ (along with lots of environmental sounds ; children laughing, wind, crowds) with persson capturing everything in blurry detail on his portable tape-machine (the outcome of which makes up the contents of the music herein) ...more info & audio samples at Mimaroglu Music Sales.
