Applehead- Crepaxian Interligne Mixtape (Pre-Cert, 2011)

"*Limited to 90 copies only, packaged in a amazing looking clamshell/cartridge style pack* Following the unresolved 'Applehead De Applehead' LP, Tony DeVal expands the semi-fictitious Applehead mythology on Andy Votel and Demdike Stare's first label cassette. Mixed at Villa Scott using only original European vinyl pressings, the 'Crepaxian Interligne' mixtape nods to the psychedelic eroticism of Guido Crepax's comics and the soundtracks of '80s Spanish and Italian horror films in typically enigmatic and inexplicable fashion. We couldn't tell you the names of any tracks, even if we wanted to (you wouldn't want Applehead on your case either, would you?), but these are the sort of cryptic sounds which conjure images of vulpine murderesses, sharp-suited sleuths, overacting obese gang bosses and the sort of more explicit blueness that would have the Daily Mail belling the BBFC. These are sounds you've probably never heard before, but they'll take you right back to 1984, alone in your bedroom watching badly dubbed and outrageous foreign "muck". Right up our alley, then! Limited copies only - no blinking." (Boomkat)

Tremendous ups to Captain Groovy for dropping this coveted cassette in the comments section of thee Applehead de Applehead post a few weeks back. I'd imagine this is his rip.....If you're feeling the adolescent vhs dragon fantasy déjà vu vibe up in this piece, methinks you should make an effort to drop in and show the captain some love over at therealnittygritty.blogspot.com. Thanks also to Jonny for the pics. And, well, to Pre-Cert of course for their excellent esoteric micro-releases. This here's a cooperative effort. Jah bless.

Applehead- Applehead de Applehead (Pre-Cert Home Entertainment, 2011)

*Second limited edition transmission from this Demdike Stare / Andy Votel orchestrated boutique imprint. 400 copies for the world*Pre-Cert Home Entertainment return from the vinyl pits of Manchester and much further abroad to present a compendium of clues exploring the semi-fictitious and quasi-symbolic qualities of Applehead. With sublime references to Roman Catholicism, Politics & Agriculture, corruption, fairy-tales, Horrotica, Post-war European Surrealism and fumetti/giallo crime fiction Applehead's first LP is presented within the aesthetic context of cold modernist-pop and Italian and Spanish horror film music featuring randomized spoken word segments and concrete compact tape experiments. It's a seriously absorbing trip. Their sonic seed trails lead to seemingly dead ends which turn out to have secret trapdoors into yet more catacombs of references to the belgian surrealism movement, the films of Lucio Fulci, the outrageous prog ideals of Franco Battiato and a hive of sounds homaging Carpenter, Oram, Massiera, Simonetti and Besombes among them. By the end of the record, when the miasma begins to recede you'll be clearer as to the essence of Applehead's macabre mediterranean folklore and his connections to the industrial North West. Until then, you're in the dark. Album features subtly disturbed artwork from Anworth Kirk and vinyl was cut at Berlin's D&M.; Limited to 500 copies and highly recommended. (Boomkat)

Cinematic synth-driven esoterica with a creeped-out library/kosmische stream-of-consciousness flair. 2 tracks / 2 sides. An extremely limited sold-out style 2011 LP release from Mr Andy Votel & Co. Those cats are making big noise, friends....

Anworth Kirk- S/T (Pre-Cert, 2010)

"First release on this new archival label loosely associated with Demdike Stare and the Finders Keepers crew* Pre-Cert Home Entertainment is a new imprint releasing limited vinyl artifacts of contemporary musical and non-musical material dredged from the collections of a number of hugely respected culture vultures in the north of England. Their obsessive tendencies are channeled into this debut release, a 22 minute collage of acousmatic oddities reclaimed from the ditches of VHS video culture, the dustiest corners of the record racks and places most folk won't allow themselves or their children to go. It's a tribute to the immersive and escapist effect of obscure and exotic film soundtracks and banks of library records, European fumetti and obscure sources which feed into their fabric and enhance their psychedelic potential. We can hear precedents for this aesthetic in the cutups of Position Normal and People Like Us or the surreal melodrama of V/Vm's Twin Peaks tribute 'There Was A Fish In the Percolator', but this particular side is more concerned with the noirish ambient hues, moods and textures which reflect the industrial landscape of its local history. The semi-fictitious protagonist Anworth Kirk melds influence from Letterist poetry to tape loops, found-sound and European folklore in a wonderfully uncertain and unpredictable manner, creating an esoteric narrative between the 12 segued tracks presented in two chapters. The vinyl plays at 45rpm - a nod to late period Indian horror soundtracks - and the artwork depicts a cryptic theme set to unravel and complicate in further episodes, including the forthcoming Samhain Slant Azimuth seasonal sound-collage mix. Limited to 500 copies - highly recommended." (Boomkat)

A spooky, far-out sound-collage gathered from the kind of weird, murky detritus you might hear tucked subliminally into a Boards of Canada or Ghostbox production. (Or, Demdike Stare...) This shit is ill. Vinyl rip. LP- only release. 2 tracks- untitled. 320 kbps.
