Miki Jaga & His Dance Band- S/T (Akpolla, AGB 74 - Nigeria? *1983)

This one is crazy hot! Wild & loose Nigerian(?) funk with freaky synth tendencies. Super dancing sounds. I just borrowed this gem from my new friend Jason. Miki Jaga & His Dance Band is incredibly great and fairly unknown. Nigerian pressed. A total must.

So, Jason is new to Portland. He will likely be keeping this Miki Jaga jam in the same crate as his William Onyeabor once he gets to spinning at the just-opened Beech St Parlor here in NoPo. With this record and a Tumblr as essential tokens of his dj steez, I can tell you--- I'ma be there, wearing bells and shit. Dig it!

320 vinyl rip by yours truly.

The Psychedelic Aliens (Academy LPs)

The Psychedelic Aliens, Academy LP's latest (forthcoming) release, is most definitely going to blow the eff up. There's no question. I must say, my love for the fuzzed out, homegrown world-psych of the 60 & 70s truly knows no bounds. As for Voodoo Frank- He does the Lord's own work. Just look at that album cover!

More and more, it seems like all the best new records on the market are culled from the unearthed obscurities of yonder days. Sublime Frequencies, Soul Jazz, Numero Group, Soundway, Finders Keepers, Mississippi Records... Am I right or am I right?

Anyway, here's How Frank describes the Aliens:

A perfect crossover of Garage Psych Rock and Afro Funk. Raw fuzz-wah-wah guitar, Vox organ, vocals with loads of reverb, huge drum break... it really is unreal!

Alhaji K. Frimpong- Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu

I just scored this killer K. Frimpong collection from Awesome Tapes from Africa. (Great blog!) Since they'd split up the tracks- some downloads being more problematic than others- I decided to zip them all up and share the love right here too. This guy is Ghanaian Highlife at its best!
