Re-Ups 4: All Hallows Edition

Can't Stop, Won't Stop, with these endless ADrive re-ups. On the other hand, full of rigor mortis just like a tortoise, might be the better reference in terms of recent pacing around here, but I digress. The All Hallows season is upon us, and nows the perfect time for Nate Ashley's incredible Written in Blood horror music series, so I'd be doing us all a disservice not to mention that Nate's uploading newly upgraded 320 versions of his monstrous collection over at his brand new blogHold it now, hit it!

(V/A) -- Unholy Hymns: Written in Blood Vol. 6 (Left-Handed Label, 2011)

As Samhain rapidly approaches, the one & only Nate Ashley has just dropped off a surprise 6th volume in his essential Written In Blood soundtrack series. Dig:

"In keeping with the rest of the Written In Blood series, Unholy Hymns offers more classic, out-of-print, or unreleased horror soundtrack music. Taken from DVD or VHS sources when unattainable elsewhere; I tried to get the best quality available to provide an enjoyable listening exprience for the music connoisseur. Charles Berstein and Stelvio Cipriani were stand out composers for me on this volume, while Luchi De Jesus's track "Diggin' For Parts" proved to be nearly impossible to find, but worth every funky second. Hope you have a horribly fun time with these sinfully good songs." ~ Nate

Karen Black & Harry Freedman - The Pyx OST (The Left-Handed-Label, 1973)

A special cameo post from Mr. Nate Ashley (mastermind behind the excellent Written In Blood horror music series). He's just fixed up this unnofficial soundtrack EP for 70's cult favorite, The Pyx, starring Karen Black. Says Nate:

"If Karen Black would have released an EP in the early seventies this is what it would have probably sounded like (minus the Harry Freedman cues). Her songs were produced by Bob Johnston who produced many classic folk
albums from Cohen to Dylan. Karen did music in other films as well, but these tracks have a particular haunting and melancholy quality that fit so well in the Pyx and stand just as well on their own. I recorded from vhs and dvd sources when originally making this cd but opted for the better sound quality of the vhs in the end."

Karen Black & Harry Freedman - The Pyx OST (1973)

1. Song of Solomon Chapter 3 (verses 1-3)
2. It All Turned Out the Way I Planned It
3. The Last Scarifice
4. The Satanic Choir
5. I Was Touched By Your Passing Through
6. Song of Solomon Chapter 3 (verses 1-4)

V/A- Written in Blood Vol.1 Redux: Classic, Unreleased, Unused and Out-of-Print Romantically Macabre Soundtrack Music (Left-Handed Label, 2010)

"Covering 5 decades of haunting soundtrack music with over 100 songs! 10 years in the making, this 5 disc set includes never before released music and classic themes ranging from Ennio Morricone to Johan Soderqvist."

Written In Blood was designed and compiled by good friend, musician and soundtrack fanatic, Nate Ashley. Nate's been working on completing this 5-disc magnum-opus anthology of rare and essential horror movie music for many, many years. Its drawn from vinyl, cd, cassette, VHS, DVD- and in recent years- rare mp3 soundtrack sources. His knowledge of the genre and commitment to perfection has yielded what I consider to be an instant-classic bootleg compilation, featuring eerie custom illustrations and designs all lovingly rendered by Mr. Ashley himself.

Written In Blood is a truly amazing effort & I am proud to announce that Ghostcapital will debuting all 5 volumes of this collection over the course of October- Starting right here & now, with Vol. 1.

Ready When You Are, JB: The Very Best of John Barry's Early Soundtracks *Redux

Here's an excellent custom-expanded John Barry collection from soundtrack wizard, Nate Ashley.

A note from Nate:

"The skinny on Ready When You Are J.B.-

This album has been out of print for a while. The original being 12 tracks, which I revamped to 25. Any James Bond themes are instrumental versions from the original soundtracks, making it a purely instrumental record. There are some real classics on here that I searched hard for. The original album was released in 1970, with John Barry rerecording his 'best' soundtrack songs with a more stripped-down ensemble, which, in my opinion, are superior to some of the original orchestral versions. My dad had this on vinyl when I was a kid and passed it on to me, a true classic. Enjoy.

P.S.- I used [read: Nate made] new art for it, of course. :)"

*Thanks so much, Mr. Nate!

Roy Budd- The Best of Budd: Original Soundtrack Music by Roy Budd

In addition to his extraordinary talents as a songwriter and graphic artist, my good buddy Nate Ashley is an absolute soundtrack fanatic. Nate's been working on finishing his 5-disc magnum-opus anthology of rare and essential horror movie music- a project he calls Written In Blood- for the past few years. His knowledge of the genre and commitment to perfection is sure to yield a instant-classic bootleg compilation; one for the ages. Having already been privy to the first few volumes, I can personally assure you that Written In Blood is a truly amazing effort & I am happy to announce that Ghostcapital will debut this collection with much pomp and circumstance in the next few weeks. In the meantime, allow me to share this Nate-compiled Roy Budd collection, unofficially released on his own Left-Handed Label. Budd soundtracked oodles of 1970s Thrillers, including; Get Carter, The Carey Treatment, Kidnapped, Foxbat, Mama Dracula, The Marseille Contract...and more. His orchestrated scores are lush and atmospheric, a sample-junky's dream, much akin to the celebrated work of David Axlerod. Thanks for this, Nate. And nice artwork, dude. Enjoy.

Sagan Om Ringen by Bo Hansson

I am forever indebted to my pal Nate Ashley for dropping this delicious morsel of Swedish concept prog on my figurative doorstep. This is Bo Hansson's 1970 "soundtrack" to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Need I remind you that no such feature film, cartoon or otherwise, was even in the works back way then? This thing is Hansson's imaginary soundtrack to the books and let me just say, it is mighty sweet. Just look at that Rodney Matthews artwork. Amazing! So nerdy...That's actually one of the LP's alternate covers, but I think its the best. I've read on allmusic that BH was a heavy-hitting keyboardist of his day. He'd apparently recorded a handful of unreleased studio sessions with Jimi Hendrix that seem like they'd be worth hearing. If anyone out there has a line on those please let me know...Now, "Go in peace"... to Middle Earth.
