A Letter to the Editor of Newsweek

The latest installment of Dymphna’s Greatest Hits was first posted in the spring of 2005. The specific abomination purveyed by the Lügenpresse is no longer obvious, as it was when she posted it, but that makes it essentially timeless, since the sentiment could just as easily apply today to virtually any MSM story about Islam. If anything, the taqiyya of the press has gotten even worse in the interim.

Dear Sir,

If it bleeds it leads, right? So there you are, Newsweek. You have a great story to pursue. Don’t let the fact that you also have the blood of many lives on your hands get in your way. In your moral universe, that’s a small price to pay for the story. Especially if it’s a story that makes your country look bad. Just make sure you spell the names correctly:

NEWSWEEK’S IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTING USES
ISLAMIC TACTICS TO ATTRACT READERS

The ‘Islamic tactic’ you used in this case is called taqiyya. More than a millennium old, taqiyya is lying for the sake of your cause. It’s a useful tool in the quest for making America look bad, one that has been employed successfully by your fellow “journalists” Eason Jordan and Dan Rather. Not to mention the declarations of the “Afghan quagmire” crowd, or the endless lamentations of the New York Times over Abu Ghraib. You are in esteemed company. And how many people died as a result of all these machinations? Do you care?

Vietnam is over. Unfortunately, you and your ilk don’t appear to grasp this. You are stuck in a time-warp quagmire of your own making, the one you helped create back then to turn the hearts and minds of your fellow citizens against your own soldiers. But your fellow citizens aren’t virgins anymore. Having been lied to, led on, fed half-truths and canned dissembling, having been assured that gossip and rumor are fact-checked truth with a big “T”, we no longer believe anything you have to say.

And for that, for your slanted, morally obtuse search for muck and for what-might-be-so-let’s-pretend-it-is, you have made us all into fact-checkers. After all the lies and misleading, if you claimed it was raining outside, we’d still go to the window to check.

New motto for dealing with the MSM: distrust and then dig for the truth. It might not be in your version of the story; it’s surely in the steaming pile you made nearby.

Sincerely yours,
Gates of Vienna

Gates of Vienna News Feed 9/22/2019

The new M5S-PD government in Italy has agreed to take in 182 “refugees” from one of the NGO migrant ferries waiting off the coast of Italy. It is hoped that this will be the first in a continuing series that will restart the flow of migrants, which had been halted while Matteo Salvini was the Italian interior minister.

In other news, British police have decided to stop releasing photos of confiscated knives, because images of the weapons may frighten people.

The Growth of Salafism in the Netherlands

Once again, Dutch politicians and the media are shocked — shocked, I tell you! — at the increasing level of Salafist ideology in the Netherlands.

The video below features Ahmed Marcouch, the mayor of Arnhem, whom we’ve seen before on several occasions. He’s a “moderate” if there ever was one, but his view of what Islam should be doesn’t seem to gain any traction among Muslims in the Low Countries.

Mr. Marcouch plainly views Salafist “extremism” as an aberration of Islam. If only I could, I’d tell him that Islamic “extremism” is what develops when Muslims pay close attention to their scriptures and attempt to follow them to the letter. However, I’m sure he already knows that — he’s obviously no fool. In any case, the Salafists will continue to sprout like mushrooms, regardless of what he says.

The Deplorables Who Vote for Björn Höcke

Caption: Björn Höcke, top candidate and regional chairman of the AfD Thuringia, gesticulates during his appearance at the start of the election campaign of the AfD in Thuringia.

It seems the legacy media in Germany view the supporters of Björn Höcke and the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany) in much the same way as our media view the MAGA-hat-wearing Trump-voting “deplorables”.

And they couldn’t be more blatant about what they’re doing: they chose to illustrate this piece with the photo at the top of this post, in a heavy-handed attempt to smear Mr. Höcke as a Hitler wannabe.

For a subtitled version of the interview that prompted this op-ed, see this post.

Many thanks to MissPiggy for translating this article from the daily Berliner Kurier:

Commentary on the election in Thuringia: The perverse desire to vote AfD

According to the latest survey, the AfD may reach 25 percent in Thuringia. 25 percent for Björn Höcke, the leader of the ultra-right wing of the AfD, a right-wing extremist who is a secret admirer of Hitler, at least in his use of language.

Assuming that the majority of these voters are not right-wing extremists, what drives them to elect such a man? Because they have all been left behind, because they are in a bad way? That cannot be, because Thuringia is a prosperous region with the lowest unemployment rate in the East. Or do they really choose to vote this way because the bus routes have been cut, or too many rural doctors close down their practices?

No, it’s something else. You can imagine them sitting in front of the TV at home and watching the new polls excitedly: “Now we’re really showing those Wessis [West Germans] and those weirdos in Berlin — now we’re driving them crazy. That’s what they get for not paying attention to us for years.” There’s just no rational explanation other than possible psychopathology.

For this kind of voter, the election of the AfD is obviously a big game, and they’re enjoy themselves greatly. But it is playing with fire. If Björn Höcke is elected, once he is able to come into power the time of such games is over. That’s when it really becomes authoritarian. Then nobody can say what he thinks except for his sworn followers. The freedoms which Thuringians enjoy today, that they are intentionally exhausting so radically with their electoral intentions, will be buried once and for all. When will these voters realise that they are digging their own grave?

The People-Smugglers’ Hotline

The following video from Italy makes it clear that the human traffickers are coordinating with NGO migrant ferries when they transport people to a rendezvous just off the coast of Libya.

An investigative journalist posed as a Tunisian and called the smugglers, using information gleaned from Facebook (yes, the traffickers have a Facebook page). The groups that advertise on social media are competing with one another for trade, so their productions are engineered to be as slick and appealing as possible to attract the potential customers.

The Truth is Determined Through Marxist Discourse

The following video is an appropriate follow-up to Maj. Stephen Coughlin’s discussions of the Hegelian dialectic at the OSCE and the determination that the truth can be hate speech.

Ava Lon, who translated the video from the Polish, includes this introduction:

The following video shows seven minutes of a longer video, from Krzysztof Karon — the very Polish writer who informed us about Altiero Spinelli and his role in the creation of the EU. The entire video is about the semantic changes put forth by the — as he calls them — Neo-Marxists, in order to appropriate the language, the debate and finally be able to create the narrative.

They reach this goal by beginning with a premise (a false premise) that Truth cannot be known at all; it is only described by our imperfect language, which can vary from one person to another, and therefore causes the Truth to be unknowable, or creates many Truths. [if you’re confused already, please keep in mind that 2+2=4, no matter how you say it, in what language, and how poor your grammar might be]

If the Truth depends on language, nothing seems simpler than to modify it by modifying the language, on purpose. Who decides how the Truth will be modified, or rather: what will be called the Truth once the necessary changes have been performed?

Jürgen Habermas, who belongs to the second generation of Frankfurt School philosophers, after suggesting the nonexistence of objective Truth and the possibility therefore of molding it at will, answers this question by proposing a collective solution in the endeavor of deciding what the Truth is, or rather what it should be.

The process by which the Truth is established is called the Discourse, according to Communicative Action Theory — known in Poland as Discourse Theory, and this is the name used in the argument by Krzysztof Karon in this video, ‘discourse’ being the key word — and Discourse, unlike a normal discussion, brooks no dissent. The consensus reached in that process isn’t reached by presenting better arguments, but rather by pressuring everyone to abandon their own views and adhere to the consensus. The difference between this and a compromise is that in a compromise everybody gives up something in order to agree on a common ground. In the Neo-Marxist Consensus Discourse, certain positions are given up completely, and the person whole-heartedly accepts the Truth established by the discourse and its consensus as HIS OWN (just as in Orwell’s 1984, it wasn’t enough to simply ACCEPT Big Brother; one had to truly LOVE him).

Once everybody has agreed on what the Truth is (in every particular case), doubting, criticizing, speaking about different possibilities, or even just asking questions about that Neo-Marxist “revealed Truth” is sowing discord, enmity and hate speech.

I thought this was very important in the light of the sentencing of Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff in Austria, where clearly the truth was not a defense, and anyway, the court already had some sort of consensus about what the truth was.

Angela Merkel: Stop Salvini!

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is using her clout as the most powerful political leader in the EU to try to make sure that Matteo Salvini is kept out of the Italian government, and the new M5S-PD coalition firmly established.

Many thanks to MissPiggy for translating this article from Compact Online:

Merkel Promised Italy Debt Relief if Salvini Falls

by Karel Meissner
September 5, 2019

So far, the intervention of EU Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger in Italy’s domestic policy has already been regarded as maximum audacity: in the SWR daily he described the divide between the Lega and the 5-Star Movement as a “good development”, if it leads to “a pro-European government” that “shows where the limits are to a populist who makes politics in swimming trunks”.

And so that the Social Democrats (PD) and five-stars, whose objectives are hardly compatible, would nevertheless go to bed with each other, Oettinger promised a fat reward: they would certainly be prepared “to do everything to make the work of the new Italian government easier and thus reward it”.

But even this audacity was outbid again, according to a report by Italy’s Il Giornale. And that by a call from Angela Merkel (CDU) to the PD! On the phone, the Chancellor is said to have described the reward that Oettinger had hinted at. Salvini had to be stopped “at all costs”. In return, she said, she had granted the Social Democrats, for example, relief on the national debt, which the country had previously been denied in Brussels.

Merkel has thus once again made it clear that she does not care at all about the will of the voters. According to a survey, Salvini is Italy’s most popular politician, while the Social Democrats were unambiguously voted out of office recently.

Hate Speech, “Islamophobia”, and Undefined Terms

Next week the annual “Human Dimension” conference will be hosted in Warsaw by the ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) under the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe). Volunteers from the Counterjihad Collective will be there to do rhetorical battle with the Islamizers of Europe, as they have so many times in the past (see the OSCE Archives for a chronicle of previous close encounters with the OSCE).

Since Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff and Henrik Clausen began attending OSCE conferences ten years ago, we’ve watched the organization gradually metamorphose from a (mostly) well-meaning outfit that really did respect free speech into a full-blown Politically Correct Multicultural trans-national advocacy group. It is basically a subsidiary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and acts as a government-funded think tank for the UN (which is also a subdivision of the OIC).

Despite the odds against us, the Counterjihad Collective continues to fight the good fight, and some of us (not including myself) will be in Warsaw next week.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

The two videos below were prepared by Maj. (ret) Stephen Coughlin in collaboration with Vlad Tepes. They recapitulate material from two Human Dimension conferences, one in Warsaw in September of 2013, the other in Vienna in June of 2015.

I was present at the 2013 event, so I’ll provide a brief introduction to what happened at the notorious side event that featured the colorfully-attired Bashy Quraishy and the staid Robin Richardson of the Runnymede Trust.

On September 24, 2013 the ODIHR Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department convened a side event, “Educational initiatives and approaches for addressing anti-Semitism and intolerance against Muslims”. This sounded like a worthwhile opportunity, and a large contingent of people from the Counterjihad Collective decided to attend it.

It was a good thing we did. It turned out that the side event was convened to highlight “Guidelines for Educators on Countering Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims: Addressing Islamophobia through Education”, which was published jointly [pdf] by OSCE/ODIHR, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO in 2011. This document — which contains 49 instances of the word “Islamophobia” — was discussed in the detailed ICLA paper The Problematic Definition of “Islamophobia” [pdf, to which I contributed], and was part of the focus of our research.

The first forty minutes or so featured presentations by the panelists, including some of the authors of the “Guidelines”. One of them was a British gentleman named Robin Richardson, who was associated with the Runnymede Trust.

Since the panelists had repeatedly mentioned “Islamophobia” — ICLA’s topic for the week — I decided to have my say, since I was fully briefed on the word “Islamophobia” and its use in the OSCE document. After comments by one other member of the audience, I spoke up, and a lengthy discussion ensued, capped by devastating remarks made by Maj. Stephen Coughlin.

Some excerpts:

Ned May: We need new terminology. On behalf of the International Civil Liberties Alliance, I formally object to the use of the word Islamophobia. Any official use, including this document. It is ill-defined and was undefined for four years. We requested a definition for four years. And it’s not even defined in here. And when we finally got one, it was from the Turkish delegation this year. And it was based on a definition by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. That is a clear conflict of interest, to use a definition by an Islamic body of something that is used against non-Muslims.

That’s the first problem. The second problem is the definition itself as our extensive, well-sourced paper showed, has at least thirteen major problems including six logical failures. It cannot be used. And the biggest failure is that the definition calls Islamophobia based on unfounded fear of Muslims or Islam. That itself is difficult to prove in any given circumstance.

And any researcher who attempts to prove that someone has a well-founded fear of Islam is branded an Islamophobe. That turns the word itself into a Catch-22. It is circular; it is recursive.

The word must be defined through the agreement of people who share different points of view: those who object to Islamic law, those who support Islamic law, those who have no opinion.

It must be defined by Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, agreeing together what Islamophobia is. Otherwise, it should be abandoned entirely. Stricken from existing publications including kept out of future publications. Thank you.

Later on, after Maj. Coughlin made his excellent presentation, there was this brief exchange:

Robin Richardson: Just could I come back, I don’t think the word Islamophobia appears in here. It appears on the title.

Ned May: It’s in there forty-nine times.

Robin Richardson: Is it really? I guess you’re right. I stand corrected. I’m surprised. But anyway, on definition. At Runnymede, we had a working definition. I don’t think the OIC existed —

Ned May: The Runnymede definition is in here.

Maj. Coughlin has revisited the material (including his most salient comments) from that side event and provided additional context for the first composite video. Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for editing and uploading both videos.

From September 2013:

The full audio of the final 48 minutes of the 2013 side event is available here. For a more detailed account of that night’s side events, including a complete transcript of the audio, see “Torpedoing Islamophobia”.

“We girls can’t be carefree and light-hearted anymore in our own country”

Vlad refers to the young lady below as “the right-wing version of Greta”. Here’s a brief description of her from an article at the site 1984:

Marla, 14: “We girls can’t be carefree and light-hearted anymore in our own country”

Marla is almost 15. She attends a private school in Cottbus. As brave as an Amazon, she tells of her experiences living in a small city. She tells how she’s been sexually harassed numerous times and how she and her girlfriend don’t dare to go to the inner city anymore. The reason, according to Marla: “So-called shelter seekers”. Marla spoke on August 21, 2019, in Luckau by Brandenburg.
