What Is CBD?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds contained in the cannabis plant. There are over 85 cannabioids in the plant. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of them. Tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, is another. THC is the compound in marijuana that gets people high. CBD does not produce this effect. In fact, of all of the chemical compounds in the cannabis plant, only THC produces a psychoactive effect. Neither CBD nor the other cannabinoids produce any psychoactive effect, except THC.
Buying CBD and selecting a authentic product is not easy. Aside from sifting through the typical manufacturers hype there are other issues as well. One notable area of confusion is shopping on the world’s biggest shopping website Amazon. Amazon does not permit the sale of CBD products although some companies market by calling it hemp extract or hemp oil. But the labeling on most of these products is often not clear regarding what exactly is in the product. Another issue is the use of the term ‘hemp oil.’ Generally most hemp oil products are simply an oil made from the hemp seed. The seeds of the hemp plant contain little, if any, CBD. This and more makes shopping for CBD a challenge because many people will purchase a product they think contains CBD but which has none of it.
So, the idea behind this blog is to try to make shopping for CBD a little easier by posting relevant news stories about the changing CBD landscape as well as reviewing some of the more popular CBD products including CBD Oil, CBD Tinctures, CBD Edibles and CBD Vape products. We will take a close look at the representations made by the various companies offering these products.

CBD vs. THC – Most folks are aware that THC is the compound in cannabis that produces a ‘high.’ But there is another compound in cannabis and hemp plants called CBD that is getting enormous attention from researchers. CBD is NOT psychoactive. In order words CBD will not get you high. However, even though there is no recreational aspect of CBD, it is the focus of substantial attention and sales of CBD concentrates are booming.

Sorry Folks -Recreational Weed Usually Has Only Small Amounts Of CBD
The CBD and THC levels vary greatly from plant to plant. Cannabis that has been grown for the illegal street market contains significantly more THC than CBD. In fact, much of the street weed contains very little CBD That’s because cannabis grown for the illegal black market has been cultivated based on the fact that marijuana with potent levels of THC is much more in demand in the black market than the low-THC variety. Street pot is bred to create pot with higher-than-ever levels of THC and virtually no CBD. It’s almost as if it is a zero sum game. The more THC then the less CBD and vice-versa. Of course, the illegal marijuana market demands high levels of THC. So, folks who are smoking street marijuana and who are telling themselves there are nutritional benefits to using illegal pot are to a large extent deluding themselves since most of the possible benefits from cannabis are very possibly in the CBD, and maybe other compounds in the plant to some extent, but not necessarily the THC. Pot Smokers have long regarded THC potency as the factor that makes one strain of marijuana better than the other as they try to get the most bang for their bucks. Potency is the main selling point in the illicit marijuana market. But now medical science researchers are focusing on CBD as well as other compounds in the plants. But it is the CBD that is at center stage in the spotlight at this time.
