A Bach organ music CD was one of the first two discs I ever bought. (The other was of Rossini overtures.)
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:17pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nice
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:19pm ndbob:

volume pretty low here
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:21pm Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, the piece gets really quiet. i thought about turning it up but that seemed wrong.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:22pm ndbob:

ah ok
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:23pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks for the headsup, tho. on the broadcast signal there's limiters to even out volume (for better and worse).
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:27pm Dean:

My first two CDs were one from the Sequentia catalog (wanna say the first traversal of Hildegard's Ordo Virtutum, but I already had that on vinyl), and -- struggling here -- Berglund conducting a couple Sibelius symphonies?

Love Sanford Sylvan. Haven't heard him in ages.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:27pm Kurt Gottschalk:

speaking of low volumes, it is our nearly silent fundraiser. if you can, please click through the woofmoo at the top of the playlist and pledge to support miniature minotaurs and the finest station in the nation. and much thanks to everyone who already has.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:28pm Kurt Gottschalk:

my first cd was coltrane. not sure about the next 15,000.
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:30pm Dean:

I can tell you what my latest one is: http://www.innovativeleisure.net/shop/khun-narins-electric-phin-band/
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:31pm Doug Schulkind:

The minotaurs are spectacularly teensy tonight, Brother Gottschalk!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:32pm Kurt Gottschalk:

they'll get bigger, don't worry. i got some george jones and ernest tubb in the bag.

Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:38pm ndbob:

The first LP I bought was Introducing Herman's Hermits
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:40pm Kurt Gottschalk:

nice choice there, ndbob. my first lp (after getting ripped off with a couple 'sounds like the original artists' super hits comps at sears) was the first kiss album. my second was the second kiss album. and so on. cuz i was like that even then.
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:42pm Dean:

First LP I *bought* (rather than acquired as a gift) was s/t of stage production of "Hair."
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:43pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hahaha! i had my mom's copy of that to wear our, though she probably would have claimed my dad bought it.
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:44pm Dean:

First issue of National Lampoon I purchased, the Travel issue from April 1974.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 7:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...many '2nds' as hand-me-downs - but 1st LP w/ shrinkwrap, 'Let It Be'...1st CD? Good question, ha...
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:45pm Dean:

My mom was a little startled by portions of "Hair." But it didn't take her long to realize, geez, it's just a record.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:46pm Kurt Gottschalk:

but records can make you kill yourself and worship the devil!
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:47pm Natas:

Only if you play them backwards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 7:48pm Barkevious Shabazz:

If they had Linda Blair AND Jim Bray from Roller Boogie, I'd go.
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:53pm Dean:

GIF looks like work from a spring 2011 course in webpage authoring at Gavilan College.
  Wed. 10/14/15 7:55pm Dean:

This, I bet, is your artist: https://www.facebook.com/jeremy.villasenor
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:58pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, dean. maybe i should friend him.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 7:59pm ndbob:

excellent first hour Kurt! I need to go - catch the rest on the archive
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:04pm coelacanth:

greetings Kurt & sundry human-combos.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:12pm coelacanth:

@ 7:47 playing a record backward DID make me kill myself & worship the devil.(not necessarily in that order) -then someone put the same record on forward and i'm okay.
Wed. 10/14/15 8:13pm Dean, er, Natas:

That, coelacanth, is because the record you played backwards was Stryper's "To Hell with the Devil."
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:17pm coelacanth:

i didn't even know i had that!
'makes sense though.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:19pm Cheyenne:

Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:23pm hyde:

man, was i ever confused about what playlist to go to. I guess I should read those Drummer Stream emails more closely...
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:26pm coelacanth:

i took an adult-school course in wfmu schedule interpretation. i recommend it.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:30pm Cheyenne:

I usually just choose a stream at random. Unless Kurt is on air, then I make sure to pop over and listen to some tuneage.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:36pm coelacanth:

it sounds like i wasted my money on that adult-school course!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:36pm Cheyenne:

Yeah @coelacanth the tuition is a rip off! Unless you pay it in pledge form, of course!
  Wed. 10/14/15 8:37pm V Priceless:

Woo! Root Beer!

  Wed. 10/14/15 8:43pm V Priceless:

Playin' catchup, Fish! Not sure I follow. Reconfiguring stereo system here - what a joyous nightmare. New blue tooth receiver so I can stream FMU from my phone to da big speakers! Can't wait!
  Wed. 10/14/15 8:43pm Dean:

I want to know why Hux Records is called Hux Records.
  Wed. 10/14/15 8:44pm Dean:

Kurt's pledge meter needs greasing. I can't do it tonight! Somebody?
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I knew someone who's grease meter needed plunging once………
……….ONCE.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:51pm coelacanth:

V, i know what you mean by "joyous nightmare"! i love working on stuff like that- despite the (sometimes extreme) frustration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 8:52pm Kyle Schwarber:

I heard this was the Baby Bull show.
  Wed. 10/14/15 8:53pm Dean:

That's "burrito," UM.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:53pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 8:55pm Kurt Gottschalk:

the cd is only available to wfmu supporters! (and it's still available.)
  Wed. 10/14/15 8:56pm V Priceless:

Ok just greased the pledge meter. FMU is the one habit I need to maintain, at all costs.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:05pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks much, pops!
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:08pm V Priceless:

Yer welcome, sonny boy!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:08pm coelacanth:

Kurt, in 1-1/2 weeks, when i can send more money (i hope), how do i find that sun ra cd? i don't see it on the current dj premiums list.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:09pm V Priceless:

I think it's in the prize warehouse Fish
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:10pm Kurt Gottschalk:

there's ways to pledge to get old premiums. best thing to do is contact joe mcgasko. i believe you can make a cd premium level pledge and sub that in but you should talk to him first.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:10pm coelacanth:

hmmm. that means i may not be donating enough to have it then.
oh well.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:11pm Mary Wing:

You can buy it here for $15:

  Wed. 10/14/15 9:17pm Mary Wing:

I like to move the merchandise. (Mine's pretty good, if you were needing suggestions for premium choices...)
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:25pm Jose Bautista:

Who's Kyle Schwarber?
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:27pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hmmm. cueto doesn't pitch for toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:36pm Uncle Michael:

not to mention, houston's going to win tonight.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:38pm V Priceless:

Dang who won Toronto series?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:38pm Uncle Michael:

Perhaps...perhaps not. I'm not committed to a preference. Royals are my best and worst case scenarios.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:39pm Uncle Michael:

Toronto won.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:39pm glenn:

toronto won, of course, in possibly the weirdest game i've ever seen.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:40pm V Priceless:

Wow three in a row, huh? Thanx UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:40pm Uncle Michael:

yes. the umpires are lucky to be alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:41pm Andrew Waterloo:

Good thing that Toronto won
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:42pm V Priceless:

Biting my nails in anticipation of Mets game 5 mañana
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:42pm coelacanth:

yes that Fred Van Hove was lovely.
last week Gary played something with beautiful female vocals in i-don't-know-what language that prompted my extraordinarily enlightened brother-in-law to ask me if i'm joining isis. when i said i hadn't planned to he said he's reporting me to homeland security.
...during that piece he glared at me as if to say he knows my secret- that i'm insane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:43pm Uncle Michael:

Go Mets.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:43pm Kurt Gottschalk:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, COEL!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:43pm coelacanth:

(the Fred Van Hove piece, that is)
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:44pm glenn:

go mets, indeed.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:46pm V Priceless:

Gotta agree with Keith Hernandez. All replay has done is usher in a new wave of lazy umpiring (umping?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:47pm Uncle Michael:

1933 was a good year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:48pm Uncle Michael:

So...about the Royals not winning tonight...
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:48pm V Priceless:

Fish that's classic! Van Hove just had the better half yelling down the hall for me to cease and desist. Wonderful!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:49pm glenn:

anyway, if and when the cubs make it, i hope that they have ferguson jenkins throw out the first pitch at their first w.s. game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:50pm Uncle Michael:

You really like Canadians.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:50pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i love how fred van hove keeps being a part of this conversation.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:51pm coelacanth:

Haha! what the hell are you listening to?! Cease and desist!
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:51pm glenn:

well, yeah. and fergie is the best pitcher the cubs ever had, at least until greg maddux.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:51pm coelacanth:

he's got staying power!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:52pm Uncle Michael:

and Maddux was the best...at least till Jake Arrieta
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:53pm V Priceless:

Good name for a president too, Van Hove
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:53pm glenn:

he's pretty freakin' good, that's for sure.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 9:55pm coelacanth:

true,V. that surname could even dignify a questionable first name.
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:56pm V Priceless:

Van Hove? : )
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:57pm V Priceless:

Even sounds a medical maneuver. They had to perform a quick Van Hove on the old lady.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 9:59pm listener james from westwood:

Glad for the blast of old shtuff at the end and of course for the whole shebang. Thanks, Kurt!
  Wed. 10/14/15 9:59pm V Priceless:

Thanks a bundle, Kurt! Swell show! Hope u back it back in time for a Halloween show, hint hint.
Avatar Wed. 10/14/15 10:00pm coelacanth:

haha! i dunno. a "van hove" might be one of those expensive procedures where they're actually just sticking a pencil with sandpaper wrapped around it into some orifice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 10/14/15 10:01pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you Kurt.
  Wed. 10/14/15 10:01pm V Priceless:
