am I on the wrong playlist again
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:05pm Gary:

Wrong playlist, right time!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:09pm northguineahills:

If I don't hear any more Ground Zero or Otomo Yoshihide in the next month, I'll might be rather cross at you Gary! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:10pm Gary:

Uh oh! I'll have to get to work on that, NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:11pm Gary:

And, again: I invite all arguments for better examples of each attribute!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:14pm hyde:

super eighties is kind of a hard category to argue. for me the quintessential personal things would be like The Boredoms or The Stalin, but the stuff you're playing sounds in its way a lot more 80's
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:15pm hyde:

also, what is that picture. is it Guitar Wolf as Godzilla
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:16pm Gary:

Indeed it is GW as Godzilla
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:17pm Gary:

I definitely went for the most cliche / obvious sense of "eighties" music with that choice
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:17pm northguineahills:

Buffalo Daughter sounds a lot like Shongun Kunitoki (who are Finnish, and sound a little more like Terry Riley) (they can be found on Fonal Recs)

I would call Buffalo Daughter "super church of anthrax".
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:18pm northguineahills:

Shogun Kunitoki
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:19pm Gary:

I'll have to look up Shogun Kunitoki ... and how come church of anthrax? I'm not getting a reference, I suspect
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:20pm hyde:

i love Guitar Wolf. i saw them at some point in the 90's, though where or when i can't really pinpoint.

also, RIP to Haruo Nakajima who died this week, who played Godzilla in the 1954 flick and a few others. He's in Seven Samurai, too.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:23pm northguineahills:

Church of Anthrax was the rockin' album John Cale did w/ Terry Riley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:23pm Gary:

I know, that was so sad to see all those pics of him in the costume in remembrance
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:24pm Gary:

Ah! I should try to find that, thanks, NGH
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:32pm coelacanth∅:

hey Gary and Bodegasattvas

this sounds lovely. it may be an hour or so before i can listen attentively but i'll be here in spirit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:33pm Gary:

Hey there, Coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:38pm melinda:

hi crowd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:39pm Gary:

Hi, Melinda!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:43pm hyde:

yay, melinda and coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:43pm melinda:

I like it when I hear familiar strains in unexpected formats, like that MMT.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:45pm northguineahills:

I thought Tori no Jidai was closer to welcome the birds, but then again my Japanese sucks.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:46pm northguineahills:

Cibo Mato
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:48pm northguineahills:

Hello melinda and other bodegamites! I'll be busy and flitting in and out.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:51pm hyde:

wooooo, Gaseneta ! this is a quintessential 80's band for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:51pm Gary:

NGH, I trust your Japanese more than I trust mine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:53pm melinda:

Bodegamite....a tiny pest, or a tasty spread?
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 7:54pm hyde:

ooh, i love Flied Egg too. this theme is the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:56pm Gary:

@Melinda, I vote for both!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:56pm Gary:

"Sh*t, there are bodegamites in my Bodegamite!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 7:58pm Gary:

It's like a response song to Mayakovsky's "Cloud in Trousers"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:03pm melinda:

Many good song titles.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:24pm hyde:

this is all a great soundtrack for the Asian history book i'm reading
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:27pm Gary:

Oh, that sounds interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:28pm Gary:

I accidentally played this track out of order -- was supposed to follow the next one ...
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:29pm geezerette:

Hello,Gary and "bodegamites", bodegamists, bodegamatics,bodegaloos, bodegabuddies...(outta breath...)
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:29pm geezerette:

yay Japan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:30pm Gary:

Geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:35pm Ike:

Hey!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:36pm hyde:

@Gary highly recommended (at least ~140 pages in): From the Ruins of Empire by Pankaj Mishra. sort of a history of late 19th/20th century Asia largely from the perspective of Asians with a lot of autobiography about figures like Jamal Al-din Al-Afghani, Liang Qichao and Rabindranath Tagore who aren't all that well known in the west. I admit I had only heard of Tagore...it's really readable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:37pm Gary:

Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:37pm Gary:

@Hyde, that sounds amazing
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:37pm hyde:

yay, geezerette!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:38pm hyde:

@Gary check it out, dude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:46pm Ike:

Do any of you like anime? I mostly can't get into it. Too many sexist squeaky caricatures of women and poor plot resolutions. I liked Cowboy Bebop though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:48pm Gary:

Ghost in the Shell ... I think I saw the sequel to it? And liked it. I haven't seen that many, myself
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:53pm hyde:

this is like a preview of the much promised noise show, heh heh heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:53pm Gary:

Haha, I was sweating bullets wondering if you were gonna remember that promise! I guess I gotta deliver definitely now :)
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:54pm geezerette:

Hyde! Miyazaki is good. Not an anime fan but his "My Friend Totoro" and "Spirited Away" are two of my favorite films.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:56pm Gary:

I haven't seen Totoro yet, but loved Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:56pm northguineahills:

Damns, missed Melt Banana!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 8:57pm Gary:

But, more importantly, you're in time for Kousokuya
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 8:59pm hyde:

@ike i would recommend Mamoru Hosada (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children) and Satoshi Kon (Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Millennium Actress)
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:00pm northguineahills:

damn it hyde, I really don't need to lengthen my reading queue, I already need to eventually become a jiangshi in order to finish what't already there.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:01pm hyde:

@ngh haha, c'mon. none of us will finish what we want to read or hear before death. embrace it, just keep plugging ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:03pm Gary:

PAPRIKA! I forgot about Paprika. That is one awesome poem-as-movie
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:04pm northguineahills:

When I was a kid there was cute show w/ (to me at least) were hopping jiangshi's w/ cartoonish music on when I got home from school. It's how I started to learn Japanese.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:05pm northguineahills:

(that, and beisubaru and seasame street).
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:09pm northguineahills:

They used to sell the week's Sesame Street's script at the newsstands for adults so they could watch and learn English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:09pm Gary:

whoa, that's amazing
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:10pm hyde:

totally
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:15pm Ike:

Oh I love Miyazaki. I don't even think of those movies as anime somehow. They're in a class of their own. Miyazaki movies are just Miyazaki movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:25pm Gary:

Have you guys seen the giant inflatable chicken that appeared near the White House?
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:27pm hyde:

i KNEW we'd get to Rallizes Dénudés before long
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:27pm Gary:

I love this version -- shorter than the others, but, weirdly, kind of "clearer"
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:28pm hyde:

i'm a sap for just about anything by these guys
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:30pm geezerette:

www.criterion.com...
For those who haven't seen "The Face of Another" I won't describe it, but this live action b&w movie seems like something almost everyone here would dig.

Don't know about White house chicken! Perfect for a prez who lays an egg with every tweet! :D
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:31pm geezerette:

Yep, this show is another knock out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:32pm Gary:

Chicken's in the news now
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:34pm coelacanth∅:

i'm wondering if when you get to "ro-" if you'll take the obvious road and play super roots...but, which one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:35pm Gary:

Hmmmm ... I'm not tellin'!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:35pm northguineahills:

I keep on missing my favorite stuff! I have to take off. I need to get up really early tomorrow. Ayanasuminasai!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:35pm Uncle Michael:

Hey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/9/17 9:37pm Gary:

Night, NGH! Hi, Uncle Michael!
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:38pm hyde:

g'night, ngh
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:38pm coelacanth∅:

me too. i was trying to listen at an almost inaudible volume before because my nephew and his gf were watching some predictable, boring anime. i suggested they turn the volume down and listen to this while watching, since the story would be easy to follow either way.
Avatar Wed. 8/9/17 9:39pm coelacanth∅:

'night ngh
