    The last two days, we’ve been on calls with friends and family all over the country where this stuff is happening. It feels like an insurrection is brewing behind the walls.

    81% of the people in Davidson county jail are pretrial and have been convicted of no crime. They are simply too poor to make bail and they don’t deserve to be put at risk for CoVID-19.

    We're NOT going to stand by & let you let our people DIE, 81% of whom are their pretrial, supposed to be presumed innocent, & are ONLY there because they are too poor to pay bail. Public Health

    One staff member hospitalized and one Prisoner is CoVID-19 positive. Thats probably why even the sheriff is trying to work with the public defender to get more people released. He knows this is a public health risk. But the judiciary doesn’t seem to care about Prisoners or staff.

    We’ve already had CoVID-19 positive staff in the Davidson county jail. An outbreak is imminent. The people running the jails are asking for decarceration at this point.

    Funny bc just last year, it was $172 fine for wearing a mask in Tennessee for one of our collective members. Almost like these punitive measures are arbitrary. Wearing a mask is helpful to stem the spread of CoVID. But we can’t capitulate to authoritarianism.

    What if.....hear me out.....we didn’t have to use punitive measures to achieve the shelter in place?

    Today I am increasing the maximum fine for violations of state-mandated social distancing rules from $500 to $1000. This is an enemy we have underestimated since day one. This is not the time to be lax. We need to and stay properly distanced.

    Patients are turning down enrollment in legitimate antiviral therapy clinical trials (that data show are efficacious against coronavirus) to get anti-malarial drug Trump is promoting with limited clinical data. This is how anti-intellectualism and cult of personality destroys us.
