About the Earth First! Journal

Since 1980, the Earth First! Journal has been the voice of the radical environmental movement. Now published quarterly in magazine format (formerly a newspaper and newsletter), it contains reports on direct action, articles on the preservation of wilderness and biological diversity, news and announcements about Earth First! and other radical environmental movements, investigative articles, critiques of the environmental movement, book and music reviews, essays exploring ecological theory, timelines of actions in defense of the wild, and a sometimes-lively letters to the editor section. The Earth First! Journal is an essential forum for discussion within the Earth First! movement. It is meant to be bold, controversial, amusing, and diverse in content and style.

Along with the Earth First! Journal print magazine, the Earth First! Journal Collective also publishes Earth First! News, a quarterly newsletter published online and distributed free to prisoners, and the Earth First! Newswire, a website with daily updates from the front lines of the radical environmental defense movement, among other projects. The EF! Journal Collective aims to support the direct action environmental movement and to share news and analysis from a variety of perspectives. Contradiction and debate are inherent, but three viewpoints remain consistent: a belief in direct action, a biocentric perspective, and a refusal to compromise in our defense of the Earth.
