Hi, I’m Paul Kim.
I’m a startup growth and marketing advisor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve worked in startups and tech my entire career. I have served as a VP Marketing for Mozilla, Automattic, Klout, WeWork and Issuu, after beginning my technology marketing career at Adobe Systems, where I led the worldwide marketing launch for Adobe Creative Suite 2.
I was most recently VP Marketing at Issuu, the leading digital publishing platform for long form content. Prior to Issuu, I was EVP Digital Marketing for WeWork, based out of their New York City HQ. I joined WeWork after running my own startup for a year, where I designed and built an app for active parents. I launched my startup after serving as VP marketing at Klout, the pioneer in social media influence measurement, which was acquired by Lithium Technologies in 2014 for $200 million.
Prior to Klout, I worked for Automattic, the makers of WordPress.com, where I was VP of user growth and introduced growth strategy as well as more traditional marketing and communications to the company when I joined. While at Automattic, I also launched and served as GM for a new SaaS service called VaultPress. I built the 1.0 product with a project team including a designer and several developers, with input from the CEO, then launched the MVP, growth hacked the initial customer list, pricing and feature roadmap, and set the service up for ongoing success.
I joined Automattic after several years at Mozilla, where I was VP marketing and launched four major versions of Firefox, growing the user base to 350 million people and achieving 25%+ market share in the web browser space, while building the marketing team to 30+ worldwide from just myself when I started.
I started my career in technology marketing at Adobe Systems, where I led the worldwide marketing launch team for Creative Suite 2.
My first job out of college was as a writer and product manager at Spectrum HoloByte, which I left to join the Milarepa Fund as a web producer.
I received an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and an AB in English from Stanford. I live in Berkeley, California, with my wife and our daughters.
