POP ETC DEBUT THEIR COVER OF FLEETWOOD MAC’S “DREAMS

FEATURED ON LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE OF
HBO’S BIG LITTLE LIES

POP ETC debut their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s song “Dreams.” The song opened last night’s episode of HBO’s Big Little Lies, and Chris Chu, lead singer of the band, says: “Dreams” is one of my favorite songs of all time and I’ve been covering it for basically as long as I’ve played music. I know I will never do it justice, but it just feels so good to sing it that selfishly I can’t seem to help myself. We’ve got a bunch more of our covers coming out soon, so stay tuned for more info….” Listen to “Dreams” here and pre-save all forthcoming releases on Spotify here.

In addition to preparing a string of new releases, which will be released on a monthly basis throughout 2019, POP ETC has kept busy with several musical projects. Chris has been co-writing with and producing numerous bands, most recently Bear Hands’ new album Fake Tunes, and Van William’s Revolution. Jon has directed Local Natives’ video for single “Tap Dancer” as well as Bear Hands’ “Back Seat Driver.” Julian, meanwhile, has been playing drums for half the bands in LA.

POP ETC has released two full-length albums, 2012’s self-titled debut, and 2016’s Souvenir. They most recently released songs including “Broken Record,” “Losing Yourself” “Both Directions” as part of their Infinite Singles Collection.

POP ETC, “Infinite Singles Collection

“I can’t stress it enough, I feel kind of crazy if I’m not writing all the time.”

So says Chris Chu, lead singer and guitarist of POP ETC, whose now LA-based band has been regularly releasing music under the “Infinite Singles Collection” banner. The unique collection promises to deliver new music in batches of one or two songs every four to six weeks, and unlike previous releases, where the trio would write 15 to 20 songs and release them all as an album, Chis, Jon Chu, and Julian Harmon have decided to chase their muse wherever it might take them.

“We had started writing our next album when it kind of hit us that making another album just sounded pretty stale and boring. It wasn’t exciting to us. We still love albums, and that format, but with the way the music world works right now, the idea of waiting another two or three years (or even more) to put out an album sounded insane to us. We are constantly making music, and we wanted some way of releasing that felt more free and dynamic.” Thus, began the “Infinite Singles Collection”

The latest in the series is POP ETC’s song “Losing Yourself,” and Chris Chu said about the musical influences behind the song: “I’ve been listening a lot lately to Smashing Pumpkins and this Japanese band I really like called Sakanaction. I saw them play and got to meet them last time I was in Japan and it was really inspiring.” Other standouts in the series include “Fingerprints,” which Earmilk praised for its “charming acoustic guitar hook, endearing vocals, and a cheerful upbeat chorus”

and “Sleight of Hand,” which Atwood Magazine called a “fresh, dreamily somber exploration of the chaos and order that drive our lives and rule our world.” Pre-save all future releases in the “Infinite Singles Collection” here.
