The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation in the United States created by congressional charter in May 1933 to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly affected by the Great Depression. The enterprise was a result of the efforts of Senator George W. Norris of Nebraska. TVA was envisioned not only as a provider, but also as a regional economic development agency that would use federal experts and electricity to rapidly modernize the region's economy and society.
TVA's service area covers most of Tennessee, portions of Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky, and small slices of Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. It was the first large regional planning agency of the federal government and remains the largest. Under the leadership of David Lilienthal ("Mr. TVA"), TVA became a model for America's governmental efforts to seek to assist in the modernization of agrarian societies in the developing world...
1930s
Even by Depression standards, the Tennessee Valley was economically dismal in 1933. Thirty percent of the population was affected by malaria, and the average income was only $639 per year, with some families surviving on as little as $100 per year. Much of the land had been farmed too hard for too long, eroding and depleting the soil. Crop yields had fallen along with farm incomes. The best timber had been cut, with another 10% of forests being burnt each year.
TVA was designed to modernize the region, using experts and electricity to combat human and economic problems. TVA developed fertilizers, taught farmers ways to improve crop yields and helped replant forests, control forest fires, and improve habitat for fish and wildlife. The most dramatic change in Valley life came from TVA-generated electricity. Electric lights and modern home appliances made life easier and farms more productive. Electricity also drew industries into the region, providing desperately needed jobs. The TVA revitalized a vast area of ruined rural America by building dams to provide cheap electricity.
None of this was easy. The development of the dams displaced more than 15,000 families. This created anti-TVA sentiment in some rural communities. Many local landowners were suspicious of government agencies. But TVA successfully introduced new agricultural methods into traditional farming communities by blending in and finding local champions.
A Tennessee farmer would not take advice from an official in a suit and tie, so TVA officials had to find leaders in the communities and convince them that crop rotation and the judicious application of fertilizers could restore soil fertility. Once they had convinced the leaders, the rest followed.
At its inception, TVA was based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but later moved its headquarters to Knoxville, Tennessee, where they remain today. At one point, TVA's headquarters were housed in the Old Federal Customs House at the corner of Clinch Avenue and Market Street. The building is now a museum.
Employment policy
The unemployed were hired for conservation, economic development, and social programs such as a library service that operated for the surrounding area. The professional staff headquarters was composed of experts from outside the region. The workers were categorized into the usual racial and gender lines of the day. TVA hired a few African-Americans for janitorial positions. TVA recognized labor unions... Women were excluded from construction work...

TVA (Albania)
TVA (Televizioni Arbëria or Telearberia) is a defunct national frequency, privately owned television station based in Tirana, Albania. Founded in 1996, Tele Arberia was one of the first private TV stations in Tirana and quickly became a major national leading channel in Albania. In fact, it was awarded national frequency status even though it covered only 30% of Albania with analogue signal.
However in the 2000s, it became known for its instability and frequent change of staff and executive directors, which have caused a significant drop of its audience share in the market. As a result, it shut down due to bankruptcy in 2009 and its UHF frequency was sold to TV Klan. During 2007, there was significant progress in programming and continuous improvements lead to TVA becoming a more dynamic television channel with a wider attendance. Until recently TVA was part of the DigitALB TV package but as of 10 July 2009 the channel on the program guide of DigitALB was replaced by the news channel A1 TV.

1930s
Even by Depression standards, the Tennessee Valley was economically dismal in 1933. Thirty percent of the population was affected by malaria, and the average income was only $639 per year, with some families surviving on as little as $100 per year. Much of the land had been farmed too hard for too long, eroding and depleting the soil. Crop yields had fallen along with farm incomes. The best timber had been cut, with another 10% of forests being burnt each year.
TVA was designed to modernize the region, using experts and electricity to combat human and economic problems. TVA developed fertilizers, taught farmers ways to improve crop yields and helped replant forests, control forest fires, and improve habitat for fish and wildlife. The most dramatic change in Valley life came from TVA-generated electricity. Electric lights and modern home appliances made life easier and farms more productive. Electricity also drew industries into the region, providing desperately needed jobs. The TVA revitalized a vast area of ruined rural America by building dams to provide cheap electricity.
None of this was easy. The development of the dams displaced more than 15,000 families. This created anti-TVA sentiment in some rural communities. Many local landowners were suspicious of government agencies. But TVA successfully introduced new agricultural methods into traditional farming communities by blending in and finding local champions.
A Tennessee farmer would not take advice from an official in a suit and tie, so TVA officials had to find leaders in the communities and convince them that crop rotation and the judicious application of fertilizers could restore soil fertility. Once they had convinced the leaders, the rest followed.
At its inception, TVA was based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but later moved its headquarters to Knoxville, Tennessee, where they remain today. At one point, TVA's headquarters were housed in the Old Federal Customs House at the corner of Clinch Avenue and Market Street. The building is now a museum.
Employment policy
The unemployed were hired for conservation, economic development, and social programs such as a library service that operated for the surrounding area. The professional staff headquarters was composed of experts from outside the region. The workers were categorized into the usual racial and gender lines of the day. TVA hired a few African-Americans for janitorial positions. TVA recognized labor unions... Women were excluded from construction work...

Bledi Strakosha started working for Albanian Radio Television (RTSH) in 1993, then the only television channel in Albania. His first program, "PAF (pasdite argetuese per femije)", was for children. He soon began to write programs too. In 1995, he began transmission of "Stars and Sounds" for TVSH (Albanian State Television). Bledi's career then continued at the first private television channel in Tirana, Alba TV. He worked for 3 months there in 1997, on the daily show "InfoFlash" and a weekly cultural program, "Studio Art". Bledi then moved to Television Arberia (TVA), where he has worked for six years on a range of prominent programs, including: "Good Morning on TVA", "Videotype", "Summer '99", "Pulse!?", "Extra Trend", "A Postcard for You", "National TeleBingo"... In 2003, for two years he hosted and produced "Blue" in Klan TV. During the summer 2006 Bledi Strakosha co-hosted and produced the talk show "The Villa of Secrets" in Top Channel TV. In June 2007 Bledi co-hosted the "Gala Evening for the 60th Anniversary of Pallati i Pioniereve" and "The National Festival for Children", held in "Pallati i Kongreseve" and broadcasted by RTSH (Albanian Radio Television). He also co-hosted in June the "Kult Awards 2007" held in "Pallati i Kongreseve" and broadcasted by Vizion Plus. On August 16th 2007 he was the presenter of "Albanian Beauty Ambassador" held in "Tropical Resort" in Durres and broadcasted by Klan TV. On September 14th 2007, Bledi Strakosha co-hosted the concert of the well-known Albanian violinist, Tedi Papavrami. The concert was held in the Castle of Gjirokastra and was aired by Klan TV. In October 2007, Bledi Strakosha co-presented "Tirana Fashion Week" that was held in "Piramida/Qendra Nderkombetare e Kultures" (The Pyramid/International Culture Centre) and was aired by Klan TV. From October 2008, for two years he hosted and produced "Blue" in Klan TV.
Bledi Strakosha filloi punën në Televizionin Shqiptar në vitin 1993, atëherë televizioni I vetëm në Shqipëri. Programi I tij I parë televiziv titullohej "PAF" dhe ishte një program për fëmijë. This time we go to 2007, when the contest was held in Helsinki, Finland Marija Šerifović represented Serbia in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Molitva'. Serbia won the grand final and brought the Eurovision Song Contest to Belgrade in 2008.
