    Thankfully we know that Adani Australia doesn’t have insurance, a contractor, two further Federal Approvals, consent from Traditional Owners or a social license to operate. And it’s still being investigated for illegally drilling into Queensland’s aquifers as we speak.

    Adani may have bullied their way into a sham groundwater approval but it’s not over yet. 65% of Queensland is in drought. We’re not going to stop fighting to protect it.

    For those following the Adani process: The groundwater approval means the company can start preliminary work on its mine. But it cannot extract coal until it obtains outstanding federal approvals. Here is a piece I wrote about this a few weeks ago

    Increased financial stability will also mean news media outlets (especially smaller ones) can feel more secure in knowing how they would fare under a sustained attack from law enforcement or the government.

    It is also about freedom from advertising pressures, freedom from strained budgets and resources, the freedom to not worry about click through rates when choosing what stories to write, and the freedom for journalists to dedicate themselves to long-term investigations.
