Paul Oosting National Director

Paul Oosting has been the National Director of GetUp since 2015. He led GetUp’s successful 2016 election campaign which focused on multiple areas such as stopping funding cuts to local hospitals, holding corporate tax dodgers to account and keeping climate action at the top of the agenda. In 2017, Paul ranked in the top 10 of the Australian Financial Review’s Power Index of the most covertly powerful people in 2017. Before joining GetUp, Paul led the successful campaign to stop Gunns’ proposed pulp mill in Tasmania. The campaign resulted in the protection of over 160,000 hectares of Tasmania’s ancient forests.

Henny Smith Elections Director

Henny is GetUp‘s Election Director. She is a lawyer who previously worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and law firm King & Wood Mallesons. In 2014, she quit the government & corporate world to work at GetUp, motivated to fight Tony Abbott’s regressive climate, refugee and health policies.
At GetUp, she’s been the Chief of Staff, run the digital advertising team at the last Federal Election, and led GetUp’s massive field effort in the successful campaign for Marriage Equality.

Mark Connelly is a Campaigns Director at GetUp, with more than a decade of political campaigning experience in Australia and the United States. Mark led prominent campaigns, including GetUp’s fightback against the Abbott Government’s 2014 austerity Budget.
In the US, Mark was Director of Online Campaigns for MoveOn.org, Strategy Director at Purpose, leading campaigns on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and held a national position coordinating lawyers in the 2004 Kerry-Edwards U.S. presidential campaign.
Mark practiced corporate law for 5 years before turning to politics. He has a law degree from NYU Law and a Master of Public Policy from Sydney University.

Miriam Lyons is Climate Justice Co-Director at GetUp! A renewable energy expert, Miriam is also an Australian policy analyst, writer and commentator, and the co-author of Governomics. Miriam is on the board of Centre for Australian Progress, a think tank she co-founded and led from 2007. Earlier roles include Policy Editor for NewMatilda.com, researching freedom of speech in East Timor, and organising ideas festivals.

Emily Mulligan is a Campaign Director with GetUp. She has a decade’s experience in campaigning from lobbying for better policy at global climate conferences to media exposure for women’s rights programs in Uganda. Most recently Emily has worked on Australia focused campaigns from the Murray Darling to Marriage Equality.

Django has worked in Australian politics since 2010, working in Tasmania, New South Wales, and federal Parliament. He’s now leading on GetUp’s efforts to turn growing economic inequality into a top-tier election issue.

Shen Narayanasamy Human Rights Campaigns Director

Shen Narayanasamy has led GetUp’s Human Rights campaigns for the last 4 years. Prior to GetUp she was a corporate lawyer, then worked in the Asia-Pacific on corporate human rights abuse - writing Oxfam’s first report into Australia’s Big Banks association with land grabs overseas.
She founded the No Business in Abuse campaign which led to the exit of international corporations from offshore detention, and the closure of the Manus Island Detention Centre. At her time at GetUp she has led our racial justice work including the successful campaigns against changes to 18C and citizenship, and instituted Colour Code - GetUp’s platform for multicultural and first nations members and issues. She plays a leadership role in the refugee sector - driving the #kidsoffnauru campaign which saw every child detained offshore brought to Australia within 4 months, and led the cross-party effort which resulted in the historic passage of the Refugee Medivac Bill in Parliament this year.

Sam is one of GetUp’s environmental justice campaigns directors. He has been leading GetUp’s campaign to fight Adani’s horrendous coal mine since 2013. He wants to keep our climate safe, our Reef healthy and the influence of fossil fuels out of our Government.
