The La's were an English rock band from Liverpool, originally active from 1983 until 1992. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Lee Mavers, the group are best known for their hit single "There She Goes". The band was formed by Mike Badger in 1983 and Mavers joined the next year, although for most of the group's history, the frequently changing line-up revolved around the core duo of Lee Mavers (vocals, guitar) and John Power (bass, backing vocals) along with numerous other guitarists and drummers including Paul Hemmings, John "Timmo" Timson, Peter "Cammy" Cammell, Iain Templeton, John "Boo" Byrne, Chris Sharrock, Barry Sutton, and Neil Mavers.
After the departure of Badger in late 1986, the band signed to Go! Discs in 1987 and commenced recording of their debut album. Following the release of singles "Way Out" (1987), "There She Goes" (1988) and "Timeless Melody" (1990) and having aborted several recording sessions with different producers, the band released their debut album The La's in 1990 to critical acclaim and modest commercial success. John Power left The La's to form Cast and the group entered a prolonged hiatus in 1992 which lasted almost two decades. The group later reformed briefly in the mid-1990s, 2005 and 2011. However, no new recordings have been released.
"There She Goes" is a song by English rock band, The La's and written by the band's frontman Lee Mavers.
In May 2007, the NME magazine placed the song at number 45 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.
Structurally, the song is very simple and contains no verses, only a single chorus repeated four times and a bridge. The song borrows from The Velvet Underground's "There She Goes Again", particularly the accents that separate the choruses.
"There She Goes" has gained a reputation for being about the use of heroin, possibly as a result of the lines: "There she goes again... racing through my brain... pulsing through my vein... no one else can heal my pain". Several newspapers ran articles about The La's and their apparent ode to heroin. When asked about the rumour in 1995, the group's bassist John Power replied: "I don't know. Truth is, I don't wanna know. Drugs and madness go hand in hand. People who you've known all your life... they're steady, then they're not. But you can't ponder, 'cause it kills you, la." However, in the book In Search of The La's: A Secret Liverpool (2003) by MW Macefield, ex-La's guitarist Paul Hemmings denied the rumour and added: "Jeremy Fisher, you don't know what you are talking about." In an interview with the BBC, lead guitarist for the single John Byrne also denied the rumour, stating: "It’s just a love song about a girl that you like but never talk to."

The La's
A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

The La's playing acoustic versions of "Son of a Gun" & "There See Goes" live for some early 90's TV show.
The La's debut album, compiled from alternative versions. Not, as far as I know, endorsed by the band, but the "I told you it was crap!" signature is infact Lee's and his opinion of the Lillywhite album. It's fine to like either... this is just my compilation of alternative versions of the songs I think capture what the band were about better. ■ Son of a Gun ( Jeremy Allom mix 1988) ■ I Can't Sleep (Bob Harris Radio Session 1989) ■ Timeless Melody (Unreleased Single Early Version) ■ Liberty Ship (Mick Moss / Picket Session Version 2) ■ There She Goes (Early single mix - Woodcray studios 1988) ■ Doledrum (Dave Allen version 1987) ■ Feelin' (Nick Campbell radio session 1988) ■ Way Out (Nick Campbell radio session 1988) ■ IOU (Mike Hedges mix 1988) ■ Freedom Song (Mike Hedges mix 1988) ■ Fai...

I have two different La's bootlegs sourced from 1980s C90 audio cassettes. One appears to contain "Side A" of the mixed La's Hedges album. The other bootleg appears to contain "Side B". I have sequenced them here in the order the songs appear. All I have done here is dusted them off, assembled them, tuned them (both tapes go out of time and pitch). It sounds coherent. I have tuned the songs to eachother, to Lee, his voice, his guitar and my guitar, it seemed the best choice to balance it out. It is NOT as clear as the "Deluxe" version. These seem to be further down the mixing process. There is a different magic in these hissy tracks. More vocals, more guitar parts, better layering. It is arguably not even finished. The same article quotes Mike Hedges as saying the album was unfinished...

Much Music 1991, interview with Lee Mavers and John Powers
John Power reveals that he's now comfortable to talk about what happened when The La's broke up, because so much time has passed. He says the band will always be a part of his life, and that Lee Mavers was a kind of mentor to him.
