Copenhagen Pledge
To avoid catastrophic climate change, the world’s leaders must agree
an international treaty which is:
1) Ambitious = as strong as the science demands. Total global emissions must peak by 2015 and then decline rapidly towards zero.
More than 40% cut by 2020 for rich countries, compared to 1990 levels and 15%- 30% for developing countries, compared to business as usual.
We must also stop destroying rainforests.
2) Fair = at least $160 billion per year transferred from rich to poor countries. Despite not causing the problem, people in poor countries will suffer most and need funds to adapt to the changing climate change and to generate clean energy.
3) Binding = legally enforceable, with strong penalties.
