What can I do with the SBS Radio app?

 

You can listen to radio live, subscribe to podcasts (so you don’t miss your favourite shows) and save episodes you enjoy so you can listen again any time.

 

A sleep timer lets you set a duration for how long you want to listen before switching off automatically. You can also customize your notifications so you never miss your favourite live broadcast or latest podcast.

 

We love interacting with our community so we’ve made it easier for you to send us a photo, video or audio file and share your favourite content with friends on Facebook or Twitter.

Where can I install the app from?

 

 

The iPhone version of the SBS Radio App can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes Store.

Which mobiles can I install the SBS Radio app on?

 

 

The operating systems that the app has been designed for are:

 

  • Apple: The iOS SBS Radio app supports devices running iOS8 and above. This includes iPhone 4s or ​higher. iPhone 3GS and 4 are not supported.
  • Android: The ​Android SBS Radio app has been designed for phones running Android 4.0.x and higher. (API level 14).

 

 

Can I install the SBS Radio app on my tablet?

 

 

You can install the app on a tablet however please note that it’s been designed specifically to work on mobiles so may look a little different.

 

 

Using the app

 

 

Can I listen to live radio on the SBS Radio app?

 

 

Yes, the app includes 8 radio stations which you can listen live to at any time.

 

 

Can I use the SBS Radio app to catch up on shows I missed?

 

 

Absolutely! The app allows you to subscribe to all the latest SBS Radio podcasts. You can also save single episodes to enjoy again at any time.

 

 

How do I subscribe to a podcast?

 

 

If you’re using the SBS Radio app all you need to do is add it to your favourites. To do this simply tap the three dots in the right corner of every featured podcast. From here tap the heart icon. The podcast will then be added to the “My Downloads” list for easy listening.

 

 

If you’re listening to a podcast on the website and wish to subscribe all you need to do is click the “Subscribe” button on individual track pages and Podcast Collections. A number of options are available which you can use to sign-up. 

 

 

How do I find the station or show I want to listen to?

 

 

Tap on the “Live Radio” tab in the main menu.

 

 

How do I find my downloads?

 

 

Tap on the “My Downloads” tab in the main menu.

 

 

How do I find what is currently playing?

 

 

To listen to live radio tap the “Live Radio” tab in the main menu and swipe left or right to find the station you want to listen to. Once you’ve made your decision, tap the play button. Alternatively you can tap the sound bar icon (insert image) at the bottom of the screen. From here you can stop and start listening or switch between stations by tapping the left and right arrows.

 

 

How do I find out what is coming up on my favourite station?

 

 

To find out what’s coming up on your fave SBS Radio station:

 

 

    • Tap the “Live Radio” tab and swipe left or right to find your favourite station.
    • Once you’ve found it, tap the “More” button.
    • At the bottom of the Station Screen you’ll see a button called “Radio Schedule”, tap this to view the radio schedule for the next 7 days

 

 

How do I find out what song played on my favourite station?

 

 

To find out what song played on your fave station:

 

 

    • Tap the “Live Radio” tab and swipe left or right to find your favourite station.
    • Once you’ve found it, tap the “More” button.
    • At the bottom of the Station screen you’ll see “Songs Played”, tap this to view a list of recently played songs. Most song information includes purchase links, so you can buy the songs you love as well. Note purchasing songs is only available to iTunes users.

 

Why do catch-up episodes disappear after 7 days?

 

SBS has the right to make some content available only for a specified timeframe. This means that catch-up episodes are not available after 7 days, when SBS’s rights expire.

 

 

How much data will the SBS Radio app use?

 

 

Audio streaming of live radio uses about 28Mb per hour. A 60 minute Podcast will range between approx 40Mb to 80Mb depending on the quality of the recording.

 

 

We recommend using WiFi where possible to help keep data usage costs down. You are responsible for data transfer and consumption charges incurred when using the SBS Radio app. SBS is not responsible or liable for data usage charges.

 

 

 

Can I listen to the SBS Radio app without an internet connection?

 

 

Yes, you can listen to saved episodes in “My Downloads” without an internet connection.

 

 

Can I listen if I am outside Australia?

 

 

You will be able to listen to most SBS Live Radio stations anywhere in the world.

 

 

How do I find the show or podcast I want to listen to?

 

 

To search for a show, tap on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of any screen. Here you’ll find a list of your favourite stations and shows and the option to search by language.

 

 

If you know which language your show or podcast is broadcast in:

 

 

    • Tap the relevant language and scroll through the latest from that podcast.
    • If the podcast you’re looking for is in English then you’ll be given a selection of shows to pick from.

 

 

Can I keep listening if I close the app and use another app?

 

 

Yes, the app will continue playing when you close it and when you use other apps. However, it will stop if you start playing audio on a different app.

 

 

Can I share shows and podcasts on the app with friends?

 

 

The programs, audio tracks, catch-up plays and songs from PopAsia can be shared from social media by clicking on the “More” button on these pages, and then clicking on the share icon.

 

 

How do I enable/disable the app auto-playing when I open the app?

 

 

You can switch off auto-play by going into the “Tools and Settings” section and switching it off. Auto-play is set to “on” by default and only applies to live streaming stations.

 

 

Does the app have an alarm clock?

 

 

The Android version of the SBS Radio app includes an alarm. Due to current technical restrictions in the iOS operating system we aren’t able to offer a streaming radio alarm on Apple devices.  Should the feature become more stable in the future, we will provide an update.

 

 

How do I set the sleep timer?

 

 

The timer feature is available in both Android and iOS versions. To set the timer, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the main menu.  

 

 

From the Tools and Settings menu:

 

 

    • Tap the “Set Sleep timer” options from the list
    • Tap when you’d like the app to turn off
    • Press the “start” button

 

 

How do I manage my notifications?

 

 

Open the notifications screen and swipe to remove notifications you no longer wish to keep.

 

 

What happened to the events calendar?

 

 

The events calendar is no longer available in-app. To view a full list of SBS Radio events visit the SBS Radio website.

 

 

What happened to the on-demand section?

 

 

You can now find on-demand programs alongside other Podcasts in the “Latest” screen

 

 

What happened to the podcasts section?

 

 

Podcasts for your language/s are now in the “Latest” screen. You can also use the “Explore” screen to find and discover new Podcasts.

 

 

How do I send an image, video or audio file to SBS radio?

 

 

To send us a photo, short video or audio file simply tap the three dots in the top right corner of the main menu.

 

 

From the Tools and Settings menu:

 

 

    • Tap the “Submit a photo, video or audio file” option from the list
    • For photos or videos either snap or record on your phone and send via email or upload from the Gallery.
    • To send us some audio, record it to your phone and upload it from your gallery directly. Note sending audio is not supported on iOS.

 

How do I change language labels?

 

 

The SBS Radio app follows your device settings for language preferences. If you change your device language, or set a preferred order, the app will use the first language in that order. Or, if you only wish to show english labels, find the ‘English Only’ option in the Settings screen. It will be off by default.

How can I listen to sport?

 

SBS is a current broadcaster of the Premier League, the A-League, and the UEFA Champions League, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the FA Cup Final. Matches from all of these competitions will be available to stream live and for free on your mobile and tablet devices, along with loads of other SBS football programming, video highlights, breaking news, match centres and more.

 

 

The SBS World Game app is available on iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices.

 

 

How do I listen to The World Game?

 

 

To listen to The World Game tap on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of any screen. Here you’ll find a list of your favourite stations and shows as well as the option to search by language.

 

 

    • Choose “English” from the alphabetical list
    • Tap on “The World Game”
    • If you love The World Game be sure to add it to your favourites by tapping the heart icon.

 

Troubleshooting

 

 

Why does the app sometimes stutter, rewind of drop out?

 

 

These issues are typically due to congestion on the mobile network. While we continually monitor the live radio streams to solve these issues as quickly as possible, if the problem is caused by congestion then we encourage you to try listening again later.

What can I do when the app rewinds or stops playing?

 

 

While problems playing live streaming radio or podcasts are generally due to network issues, the following can sometimes help:

 

 

    • Restarting your WiFi router (if you're connected to WiFi)
    • Restarting your phone
    • Closing all the apps on your phone

 

 

I’d like to provide feedback directly to a program, how can I contact them?

 

To contact a specific program:

 

  • Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of any screen.

  • Scroll through the list of languages until you find the one you want and tap on it.

  • From the language screen tap the “more” button.

  • From this page you’ll find a “Contact program” button, tap this to send an email from your mobile.
