West Virginia

West Virginia ⁱ/ˌwɛst vərˈdʒɪnjə/ is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States. It is bordered by Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, Ohio to the northwest, Pennsylvania to the north (and, slightly, east), and Maryland to the northeast. West Virginia is the 41st largest by area and the 38th most populous of the 50 United States. The capital and largest city is Charleston.

West Virginia became a state following the Wheeling Conventions of 1861, in which delegates from some Unionist counties of northwestern Virginia decided to break away from Virginia during the American Civil War, although they included many secessionist counties in the new state. West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863, and was a key Civil War border state. West Virginia was the only state to form by separating from a Confederate state, the first to separate from any state since Maine separated from Massachusetts, and was one of two states formed during the American Civil War (the other being Nevada, which separated from Utah Territory).

West Virginia Route 101

West Virginia Route 101 is an unsigned 1-mile (1.6 km) long north–south state highway in the City of Huntington in Cabell County, West Virginia. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 60 (31st Street). The northern terminus is at US 60 (Third Avenue).

From 31st Street, WV 101 follows Eighth Avenue west to 29th Street, where WV 101 turns north to follow 29th Street to Third Avenue.

History

WV 101 was part of US 60 until US 60 was moved two blocks to the east in 1990.

West Virginia Route 26

West Virginia Route 26 is a north–south state highway located within Preston County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 50 in Fellowsville. The northern terminus is at the Pennsylvania state line northeast of Glade Farms, where WV 26 continues as Pennsylvania Route 281.

Fortune Faded

"Fortune Faded" is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was released in 2003 as a single, to coincide with the release of their Greatest Hits album. The song, along with "Save the Population" (another song from their Greatest Hits), was recorded at The Mansion and produced by Rick Rubin. A music video was also produced.

One of the single's B-sides, "Bunker Hill" was originally recorded for Californication, while the other, "Eskimo," was written during By the Way. The second version of the single, with blue printing instead of red on the cover art, was never released in the UK due to last minute complications, as the second release was too long to be classed as a single. UK Chart singles must not last over 20 minutes in length. "Tuesday Night in Berlin" was a live jam recorded in Berlin and features Ekkehard Ehlers producing sound effects throughout the jam. Sometime into the jam, Flea switches to trumpet and Frusciante plays bass for the remainder of the jam.

"Fortune Faded" was originally recorded for the By the Way album and was played live a few times in 2001 with a chorus that is different from the Greatest Hits version. The band did not like how the By the Way sessions version sounded, thus it was re-recorded for the Greatest Hits collection. After the chorus' change, the band performed the original version once in 2005. A rough mix with a guide vocal of the By The Way sessions version with the original chorus has surfaced online, but has never been officially released by the band.

Bunker Hill (musician)

David Walker (born May 5, 1941, possibly died late 1980s), better known by his stage name Bunker Hill, was an American rhythm & blues and gospel singer.

Raised in Washington, D.C., Walker sought a career in professional boxing, at one point becoming the sparring partner of Archie Moore. He left boxing to pursue a career singing gospel, and in the late 1950s joined the Mighty Clouds of Joy.

In 1962 he was offered the chance to record a secular novelty song by manager Ray Vernon, the brother of Link Wray. Adopting the pseudonym Bunker Hill so as not to lose his position with the Mighty Clouds of Joy, he recorded several tracks with a band including Link Wray on guitar. One of the tracks, "Hide and Go Seek", became a hit single in the United States, reaching #27 on the Billboard R&B charts and #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite hiding his identity, he was still found out and asked to leave the Mighty Clouds of Joy as a result.

His later life is obscure, although it is believed that he did perform occasionally as a member of the Mighty Clouds of Joy before leaving the music industry in the late 1960s. Some reports state that he died in Houston, Texas in the late 1980s, but this is unconfirmed.

Bunker Hill (Waterbury)

Bunker Hill is a neighborhood of the city of Waterbury, Connecticut. Though part of the city of Waterbury, it has its own identity with its own commercial center, schools, parks and gatherings. It can be self-sustaining, containing many attributes of municipalities throughout the state. Like the other sections/neighborhoods of Waterbury, its distinctive character, shaped by the history and geography of the city, has led residents to form an unusual loyalty to their neighborhood.

Geography

Bunker Hill lies northwest of downtown Waterbury. It borders Watertown to the north and the Waterville and Robinwood neighborhoods to the east and south. The Bunker Hill area is accessed by the Route 8 Expressway and CT RT-63.

Infrastructure

The area contains mostly single family, residential homes. Many of the homes are on the National Historic District. There are 3 schools in Bunker Hill, including Bunker Hill Elementary School.

Demographics

Bunker Hill is supported by the residents who live there. The Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association exists for the purpose to promote the community and discuss matters pertaining directly to the neighborhood. The area is diverse. As many other parts/neighborhoods in Waterbury are identified by their culture; be it Italian in Town Plot and the North End or the French Canadian influence in the South End, Bunker Hill remains distinctive by its own character.
