Half of the antiracists arrested during a chaotic protest at UNC Chapel Hill on 9/8/18 have been found not guilty or had charges dismissed. 2 others are appealing convictions, including 1 who accuses a police officer of giving false testimony

Protest @ has ended. Police response tonight shows that continued pressure on DeKalb Jail over inhumane conditions is having an effect. Please support those arrested when police tried to suppress protest: We demand !

Trying to find some joyful moments to include in the brief writeup I'm doing of the queer history of UNC for an RA gig and really struggling. Wading through five decades worth of well-documented homophobia at this institution and thinking about how little has changed.

When the Allen Building protesters heard police were coming, they stuck cigarettes butts in their nose so they could breathe in case of tear gas:

The UNC Board of Governors has delayed its Silent Sam decision again, another continuation in the ongoing saga. On one hand, no decision is a good decision—it’s unlikely the BOG will ever make a decision we agree with. But they still refuse to say Silent Sam won’t be re-erected.

Please comment with support for my 11-year-old daughter. She was removed from class and sent to the principal’s office for the rest of the day last Thursday for shouting, “Stop it, put your hands down now,” to a group of students giving the Nazi salute.

(Barry is the neo-confederate who punched an undergrad in the face on camera. Julia is the undergrad who was falsely accused/convicted of kicking a campus police officer p.s. she was wearing flip flops.)

Just got out of court. Came here to plead not guilty in my appeal of my conviction of 2 counts of misdemeanor assault on a police officer.  One conviction was just overturned, officially.

And if you're still trying to make it through this place, know that 1 We feel much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone. 2 We must love & support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains

And to anyone who chooses to leave early or not attend places like UNC in the first place, we are so proud of you, too. None of us should have to choose between our well-being, sometimes even our survival, and education--but so many of us do.

We are so proud of everyone graduating from UNC Chapel Hill today who had to struggle to survive this institution. College shouldn't be a site of trauma. Yet UNC has long been a place where white supremacy and all other forms of oppression thrive--thrive so that we won't.

Good story about 3 mothers being celebrated at who were enslaved by the Cameron family. One, Mary Walker, escaped & wrote to ask to buy her children's freedom. The Cameron family refused. Her daughter, Addie Walker, inspired an doll.

On , our thoughts are with all the mothers and children who have been separated by the criminal "justice" industry, migrant detention, and other structurally racist forms of oppression. Let's fight together to create a world in which all are free.

Correction: It was vastly improved overnight. Confederate statues are racist vandalism and should be purged from the planet.
