Store

You can sell products or services online using our Store option here on WordPress.com!

To use Store on WP.com, you will need to be located in Canada or the United States, be on a WordPress.com Business plan, and have previously installed a custom plugin or theme.

Creating your Store

If your site is eligible, you’ll see an option appear in your dashboard labeled Store. Click on this item to create your Store.

Clicking on this item will begin the Store set up automatically, and you will see a progress bar appear while the Store is created.

Creating a Product

After you have created your store, the first thing you need to do is create a product to sell. You can do this by clicking the ‘Add a product’ button on the Store dashboard.

On that page, add a Product Name, image, description, and other details. You can also add variations of your product at this point – different sizes or colors of a product, for example. For each product or variation, you can also set an inventory quantity, so that you don’t sell more of a product than you have in stock!

Full instructions on adding/editing a product can be found on our Products documentation page.

For restrictions on what you’re allowed to sell using your WordPress.com store, please see our Store Guidelines.

Setting up Shipping

By default, your store is set up to offer free shipping to all visitors. You can modify this in the Shipping settings.

Store includes three methods of shipping: free shipping, flat rate, or local pickup. If you need more methods or control over shipping – by weight, for example, you can add a WooCommerce extension to handle that.

You can also set up distinct zones for shipping, using different methods for each zone. You can set a zone at the Country or State-wide level, or by specific postcodes.

Setting up Payments

Your store offers payment using PayPal or Stripe, or offline payments by check or cash on delivery. You can enable or disable specific payment methods, as well as set your shop’s currency, in the Payment settings.

Full instructions on the options found on this page can be found on our Payments documentation page.

Calculating Taxes

Store uses TaxJar, a third party service, to calculate sales taxes automatically. In order to calculate sales tax, TaxJar needs to have the cost of the order, your address, and your customer’s address. For more information about how this works, including how to disable TaxJar, see the TaxJar support document.

Promotions & Reviews

Like many online stores, you are able to set up promotions (e.g. coupons) and product reviews. Full instructions on configuring these can be found in our Promotions and Reviews documentation pages.

Advanced Customization

If you need to do advanced customizations with your store, including advanced shipping rate calculations, adding additional payment gateways, or importing/exporting inventory levels, you can use WooCommerce Extensions with your store. For a full list of available WooCommerce Extensions, you can see the WooCommerce site and docs. All installed WooCommerce extensions will need to be managed through the WP Admin dashboard, which you can access by clicking on My Site -> WP Admin.
