Data Researcher, Voting Rights
Contract Reporter
FRONTLINE is seeking a reporter for a six-month, project-based assignment. They will work with FRONTLINE’s award-winning interactive documentary team on a major multimedia investigation that will combine text, video, photography, audio and graphics.
We are looking for a strong reporter and creative storyteller with a passion for experimentation to join the team. Past projects this team has produced include “Inheritance” and “The Last Generation,” which have been recognized by the Emmys, Peabodys, duPont-Columbia Awards and more.
Previous investigative reporting experience is preferred, with a special emphasis on reporting on the criminal justice system and communicating with federal agencies. The candidate must have a strong understanding of the principles of journalism and have a proven ability to present balanced reporting, fairness and fidelity to facts. This person is committed to unearthing underreported stories, and pursuing them with rigor, thoroughness and fairness. A particular interest in the Civil Rights era is a plus.
This journalist will report to the project director, and will have the opportunity for mentorship from FRONTLINE’S Senior Editor. Our offices are in Boston, but a remote work arrangement may be considered. Some travel will be required. Fellowship Opportunities
Abrams Digital Video Fellow (Digital Editor): FRONTLINE is seeking a mid-career producer/editor for a yearlong digital video fellowship. In an age of round-the-clock breaking news, FRONTLINE remains committed to provocative, hard-hitting, longform journalism — and this fellow should be, too. The Abrams Digital Video Fellow, under the leadership of the Director of Digital Video, will work closely with FRONTLINE’s dedicated cadre of reporters, filmmakers and editors to bring FRONTLINE’s signature brand of journalism to life in new ways. Throughout the year, the fellow will work on everything from creating dynamic stories for social to producing innovative multimedia projects. We’re looking for a storyteller and journalist who cares deeply about telling stories in engaging new ways and who knows how to craft stories for social platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. She or he needs to be able to develop and pitch stories and should have a proven track record for producing projects from start to finish. The fellow must also be a good collaborator, communicator and able to work on multiple projects under tight deadline. FRONTLINE/Newmark J-School Fellow: FRONTLINE selects a recent graduate from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY for a yearlong paid journalism fellowship, with generous funding from The Tow Foundation. The fellow works alongside FRONTLINE’s dedicated cadre of reporters, producers and digital makers to contribute reporting across our platforms, from the film and podcast series to transmedia projects online. The fellowship begins in January and last one year. The 2019 fellowship deadline has passed; we’ll start accepting applications for the 2020 position in the fall.
FRONTLINE/Columbia Journalism School Fellowships: FRONTLINE selects two recent graduates from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism for yearlong paid fellowships. The fellows report transmedia projects for FRONTLINE that combine text, video, photography, audio and graphics across broadcast and digital platforms. The endeavor launched in 2015 with funding from The Tow Foundation and WGBH Trustee Amy Abrams and her husband David. Fellowships begin in the fall and last one year. We’ll begin accepting applications for the 2019 fellowships this spring.

Podcast Internship
The FRONTLINE Dispatch is a new, narrative podcast series that focuses on telling crucial domestic and international stories with the rigor and tenacity that audiences expect from FRONTLINE.
Our Dispatch interns will assist the podcast team with conducting research, cutting tape, maintaining the audio archive, and fielding producer inquiries. This intern may also work on special projects that include podcast production assistance.
We are looking for candidates with a passion for audio storytelling and news, experience editing audio, strong research skills, and a strong work ethic. This intern should feel confident working independently and taking initiative in a fast-paced environment. The internship requires a commitment of 15-20 hours a week.

Digital Internship
Our digital interns assist with research, editing, social media and production of special interactive projects for FRONTLINE’s website and other digital platforms. We’re constantly innovating and experimenting, so gain hands-on experience on a team with lots of opportunities. Our ideal applicants are web-savvy newshounds who are interested in working across a variety of media.

Editorial Internship
Our editorial interns assist the senior editorial staff with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to conducting research, assisting with the story submission review process, maintaining the series library, and fielding producer inquiries. This internship is an opportunity to work with broadcast professionals to learn the intricacies of producing long format investigative documentary television.
We’re looking for someone with excellent research, writing and organizational skills, in addition to a good work ethic. A candidate should also possess the ability to work independently, take initiative, and must be able to function in a fast paced environment. This internship requires a commitment of 15-20 hours a week. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined on an individual basis.

Post-Production Internship
FRONTLINE is seeking interested students who are eager to learn about and assist with the process of getting a weekly PBS television series on the air. All majors are welcome; television, film, broadcasting or journalism students are especially encouraged. This internship is an opportunity to work with broadcast professionals to learn the intricacies of the post-production process.
Interns will learn how to work within a post-production team, come away with a solid understanding of the post process and current standards and formats, and learn how to operate independently in a top-of-the-line facility. The internship will also provide the opportunity to observe AVID online documentary editing sessions and FRONTLINE screenings. Interns will assist the Post-Production Coordinator and FRONTLINE OutPost staff with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to tracking assets, archiving production media, footage research and client services.
We accept and review resumes on a rolling basis. Interested applicants should be responsible, show initiative, and possess a general understanding of television production. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment. This internship requires a commitment of 16-20 hours a week. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined on an individual basis.

Social Media Internship
Our social media interns work closely with the Online Engagement Coordinator, assisting with the research, drafting and proofing of written content for social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook. The intern may also take on special projects as assigned, such as researching potential social media contacts, tools, events and opportunities.
We’re looking for candidates with web research skills, strong knowledge of current events, familiarity with FRONTLINE, experience with social media tools, including Twitter and Facebook. Should be familiar with Mac OS, Microsoft Word and Excel.
