“Like Punching A Puppy”: Jessica Mauboy Giggles Her Way Through An Extra Cringey ‘Hard Chat’
"Are you the only person to do Eurovision and lower their profile?"
Tom Gleeson has laid into Jessica Mauboy in an especially savage edition of Hard Chat, dragging the singer over everything from her “boring” personality to her 20th place finish in last year’s Eurovision song contest. And honestly, she held up pretty well considering.
“You’ve been described as the girl next door,” began Gleeson. “Squeaky clean and relatable. Are there any other ways of saying boring?”
The comedian went on to roast Mauboy over her love of Mariah Carey, while also landing a brutal blow about her 2008 single ‘Burn’.
“In your first hit single Burn, you sing ‘Look what you did to me, I need a doctor because this is starting to burn’,” he asked. “Is that your only song about chlamydia or do you have others?”
Mauboy, for her part, took it all with a smile and even got in a dig at former Australian Idol host Kyle Sandilands, who famously got stuck into her over her weight when she appeared on the singing contest.
“You’ve appeared on Sesame Street and Australian Idol,” Gleeson asked. “Which filthy bin dweller was worse – Oscar the Grouch or Kyle Sandilands?”
“Kyle, definitely,” she replied.
