    'Professionalism' can perpetuate . The invocation to 'be more professional' can mean 'be less who you are' or 'be less outspoken' or 'be careful of repercussion'. The meaning of professionalism is constantly shifting and is usually defined in a top-down manner.

    As a surgeon, I see men with so many chronic, untreated injuries from football. I see what coaches demand of players, and the impossible recovery expectations. I don’t disagree that this toxic culture of injury isn’t great - but both men and women need protection from it.
