Charges Laid After Gosford Church Service Interrupted By Far-Right Group

Police allege two men carried a whip and fake sword, and used a loudspeaker to interrupt the minister's sermon.

The leader of a Victorian far-right political stunt group has been charged after allegedly interrupting a church service at Gosford in May while dressed as Jesus Christ.

NSW Police confirmed to ten daily Victorian man Neil Erikson had been charged with the little-used offence of use threat to prevent clergyman from discharging duties, following an incident in May that was recorded by the group and posted on Facebook.

In a court attendance notice served by police to Erikson, seen by ten daily, authorities allege two men entered the Gosford Anglican Church during a service on the evening of May 19.

Police allege the men carried a whip and fake sword, and used a loudspeaker to interrupt the minister's sermon.

"This caused great distress to many members of the congregation," the notice alleged.

"The victim states that he was terrified when he saw the co-accused holding the sword and didn't know what was happening."

Erikson told ten daily he would be fighting the allegations.

Police said he is due to face court in Gosford on September 11.
