Van Badham is an unflinching writer and activist, disposed towards agitation and challenging authority. She is also a Melbourne based writer, presenter, and theatre maker makes work for the theatre, churns out the occasional book chapter and has never abandoned a dream to write more novels.
My family has lost friends to terrorist attacks twice; I understand with the sadness of bereavement the fear of unpredictable events and anxiety around harm that can be done. I also want to remind readers of this page that the most dangerous enemy any of us face is fear and panic; if the desire is to protect a peaceful society that’s based on order, justice, fairness and law, engaging in extreme, emotional responses – even to events that scare us – is RIGHT OUT. My friend Celeste Liddle raises very good points about these arrests in Melbourne, and I urge everyone to consider them with the calmness, care and reason that we should all seek to defend.
