Liberal Democrats to be based in Ballarat for state politics
THE Liberal Democratic Party will be based in Ballarat as the party’s shift into state politics is taken up a notch.
The party is seeking official registration as a political party in the state in the lead-up to the election and listed its main address as a location in Ballarat.
While treasurer Tim Wilms said it was too early to say if the party would have candidates in the seats of Wendouree, Ripon and Buninyong, he did say the party would definitely have candidates for the upper house positions available in Western Victoria.
“We are a party that wants to reduce the size of government,” he said.
“We have seen a waste of money at a state level.”
Mr Wilms said it was also intrusive laws imposed by the state government which had led to their desire to launch in Victoria.
Anyone who has objections to the party being registered can write to the Victorian Electoral Commission before September 29.
The party would need to prove it had 500 members before it could officially register in Victoria.
