Healing Iona

Iona is a spirited 8 year old girl who loves horses, dogs, dance, Star Wars and Harry Potter. Life has taken an unexpected turn for her and her family with a sudden diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Whilst Iona’s mum IShbel, dad Tom and younger sister Xari have been devastated by this news, they are determined to fight alongside her to reach a full recovery.

The odds of a complete recovery are good but Iona is now facing several months of intense treatment in hospital, including chemotherapy. It could be up to two years before she is completely well again. In the meantime, her mum cannot work and so this funding campaign has been started to help cover IShbel’s lost income and meet the expenses of the family as they travel to Sydney to be at her bedside during her treatment. Every dollar donated is gratefully appreciated and helps Ish and Tom to support Iona on her healing journey.

In response to all the support that the family has already received in the form of food donations, gifts and loving messages, Iona’s dad Tom said, “The team of experts working around the clock at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick are my new personal heroes. Our incredible local community in Helensburgh is rallying behind us and the love and support we are receiving from around the country, and the world, is giving us strength and comfort. Iona is one of the most feisty and determined young people I’ve ever known. The courage she has shown in these last few days is inspirational.The road ahead is long and hard, we know that. But we will get there. Thank you for all the love and support. It means the world to us.”
