BMW: OS 7.0 wireless software updates go live

BMW has released its first wireless software update for its OS7.0 infotainment system, with fresh functionality from its 'Intelligent Personal Assistant'.

The update is available on the new X5, 3 Series and 8 Series, and includes changes to the personal assistant, adaptive cruise control and side collision protection systems.

Beyond this first update, the company is vowing to "regularly expand and improve" OS7.0's functionality, and to keep making the voice-activated Intelligent Personal Assistant's smarter. The upgrades will be free.

At the moment, it can control a range of in-car functions like climate control, sunroof and audio settings. It relies on 'natural language' inputs, in keeping with devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home, meaning there's plenty of scope for refinement and added functions.

Tesla was early to the wireless update game, and has used the capability to change everything from the look of the Model S and Model X touchscreen, to the way the Model 3's anti-lock braking system operates.

Australia is a BMW ConnectedDrive compatible market, which means wireless updates should be active for owners of the included models.
