It's a surreal world. I never thought the day would come when I write in solidarity with Australian journalists and ABC from Manus Island. We must accept this bitter truth, that we have entered a dark period for free speech in this liberal democracy.

A raid on an Australian journalist’s home was believed to be the first such action in the country in more than a decade. A union for media workers called the search “an outrageous attack on press freedom.”

The raids on Annika Smethurst, the ABC, and the threat to 2GB’s Ben Fordham are ominous for a free, independent press. This isn’t China or East Germany. ScoMo has been flippant in his attempt to flick pass it all to the AFP.

Federal Police raids on journalists this week mark a new low point in the fight for a free press in Australia. The reporters are doing their job (very well by the way ) in the public interest. Every Australian should be outraged by this appalling attack on the profession.

There’s no greater public interest than the story about a plan to spy on Aussie citizens. The raids on her & the ABC attack our democracy & the public’s right to know. They’re an attack on all Austns including Sco Mo’s quiet Austns-the ones we fight for everyday
