Camden Lock Books, located in Old Street Station, is one of the Capital’s more established independent bookshops. We’re a general independent bookshop and also specialize in great photographic, art, and local history books (& ECM label Jazz CDs).

Established in 1984 as a second-hand bookshop in Camden Lock Market by Jason Burley, it was then called Lot 49 Books (in homage to Thomas Pynchon). At its zenith Camden Lock Books had expanded into three shops, one on the South Bank and two in Camden Lock Market. Since 2002, when we moved to Old Street Station, we’ve stocked new books and collectable books and our name reflects our place of inception.

No station bookshop in London has a wider general stock.

We also buy and sell Out of Print books using Marketplace and AbeBooks. These are no longer being published, are often rare and may be otherwise hard to acquire. Jason’s expertise came from 4 years as London Chairman of the largest group of Out of Print booksellers in the UK [Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association].

Please follow us on Twitter @camdenlockbooks, on Instagram camdenlockbooks, and on Facebook: Camden Lock Bookshop.

In addition to professional advice & service, we offer:-

  • 3 for 2 on the shop’s bestselling latest 50 paperback & hardback novels
  • a shop-front window with our leading general books at less than half price
  • we order & post books from UK & USA, both current & out of print

So, for outstanding convenience of access by public transport, combined with depth of stock, and people who’ve cared about the books they sell (from their home-made shelves) for over 30 years, buy your books from this surprising gem of a bookshop. We’re open weekdays 8.30 am until 7 pm and Saturdays from 12 noon until 5.30pm.
